SCOTT STONE #125 Race report
Reactive Parts – MRO POWERBIKES CHAMPIONSHIP 2025 ROUND 5 - CADWELL PARK 4 – 6 July
Test day Friday
Well I find this a little embarrassing! Out in the first session of the day feeling good and excited to get going straight away. I normally build into a Test Day, but not this time. I tried to run the rear Donington setting to gain more grip, but it was too soft. I was running wide on exit, decided to ignore it and paid the price. On the last lap, I ran out of track at Chris Curve and ended up on the grass ….. flat-out in 4th gear! Used full motoX mode to save it and, fair to say, it was a good attempt, but had to lay the bike down before hitting the tyre wall. A reminder to stay switched on at all times as these bikes will bite if you let them.
Anyway, damage wasn’t too bad. Luckily, we hadn’t renewed the fairings after Donington. However, I had smashed the stop/start switch and couldn’t start the bike. Ran around the paddock twice looking for one to no avail, but then cunningham came to the rescue. He cut into the wiring with a rain light switch and got me running. Sounds easy, but he figured out the sequence to power the fuel pump and start the starter separately. Thanks mate.
After missing two sessions for repairs, went out to find the front end wasn’t straight. So, back in for more work. Then in the following session, stopped again when the exhaust popped off at the centre-piece. Going out in the last session, the set-up was nowhere near and the bike felt pants. A day to forget.
I have to say ‘thanks so much’ to Jason (he never stopped working all day) and to Nigel and Jan running about after me, fetching parts and then Nigel straight onto the spanners to get us going. I am very grateful.
The target this weekend was to get into the 1min.32’s, but that wasn’t going to be easy now.
Qualifying Saturday
Sun shining and putting Friday behind me, it was time to get back to some normality. I’m not one for crashing and, having two in a row, it’s becoming boring and costly in so many ways. Used the session to get some laps in and set an OK time of 1.34.7. Not what I was hoping for, but everything considered, I was happy with that.
Race 1 (9 laps)
Started at P7 and got a fair start. Really enjoyed the race. There was plenty of passing, which was fun, but just couldn’t get free to go with the front 3 soon enough. Finished P5 with a 1.33.7 (on Lap 9) which is a Cadwell Park PB for me on any bike, so I was happy.
Race 2 (9 laps)
I was losing so much time in Sector 2 that we had to try some set-up changes. The adjustments helped me straight away. Thanks to Advanced Moto Motion Ltd for confirming the changes needed.
Starting at P5, had a mega start and was up to P2 and on the back of Brendan Mallinder through Charlie’s, so it was GO time. Stayed with him for a few laps and learnt a few things before he drew away. Held P2 all the race and lapped in the 1.33’s on my own, except for one lap, where I missed a gear at the hairpin.
The race was busy behind me, I’m told, but just kept my head down and stayed ahead.
A new PB of 1.33.4, again achieved on the last lap. We found a good direction of set-up for when we return to Cadwell next month, hopefully, to get into the 1.32’s.
Race 3 (12 laps) Sunday
As the rain was heavy and our race didn’t run until 3pm., we decided there was nothing to be gained by racing. With a crucial Round 5 of No Limits Racing at Anglesey next week, we went home to give the AMCO R1 some much-needed TLC.
Thanks to everyone who helps me do this. I love it.
