The impressive Rock of Cashel is one of many sites across the island of Ireland linked to the famous 5th century bishop, St Patrick.

Legend has it that the rock was formed when St Patrick banished the Devil from a cave in the Devil's Bit mountain causing an enraged Satan to take a bite out of the hill and spit it out at Cashel.

Once the traditional seat of the kings of Munster, the Rock of Cashel is also believed to be where St Patrick converted King Oengus to Christianity.

Happy St Patrick's Day! 🍀

Today and every year on January 25th, the life and works of Robert Burns are celebrated at Burns Suppers in Scotland and across the world.

The traditional meal of haggis, neeps and tatties is served; a glass of whisky is enjoyed, and toasts are made to the lassies, the laddies, the haggis and to Burns himself. 🥃

And a selection of the bard's poems and songs are performed. Here's an excerpt from his poem, 'My heart's in the Highlands'

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands, a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go.

The Flow Country in the Scottish Highlands has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status, joining Scotland's list of UNESCO sites.

It is the most expansive blanket bog in the world, covering an area of 4,000 sq. km and straddling the counties of Caithness and Sutherland in the far north of Scotland.

This rugged area is recognised as a complex and fragile peatland ecosystem supporting an array of rare plants and home to a variety of wildlife. It also stores approximately 400 million tonnes of carbon, a vital defence against climate change.

The RSPB Forsinard Flows nature reserve has a viewing tower and walking trails allowing an up-close encounter with this amazing environment.

Located close to the North Coast 500, a visit to the Flow Country can be included in a trip around this scenic route. Get in touch and we can help design your ideal trip around Scotland. .life

The Lizard Peninsula in South Cornwall is a delight to explore with picturesque villages, craggy coves, sandy bays and coastal paths fringed with wildflowers galore. Lizard Point is the most southerly point of the British mainland and the peninsula has a fascinating history of shipwrecks, Spanish Armada sightings and as the location of some of Italian inventor Marconi's ground-breaking wireless experiments. One of North Devon's gems, the pretty fishing village of Clovelly clings to the hillside overlooking the sea. This privately owned village has a no vehicle policy so be ready to leave your car in the visitor centre car park at the top and walk down the steep cobbled streets to discover its charms on foot. There's a little museum, individual shops, quaint churches and Victorian gardens to explore too. Plan ahead and book lunch in one of the local eateries such as the delightful quayside hotel.

On your return journey, you can opt for a land rover ride back up the hill to make it a little more relaxing!

Locals all have a sledge (see last pic) for transporting their supplies along the narrow lanes of the village. And look out for the resident donkeys!

Devon and Cornwall are among England's most delightful counties so get in touch and let us help you incorporate them into your ideal, tailor-made trip. https://turas.life/devon-cornwall/
