For more than 12 years, Today Team has supported one of our longstanding aviation customers with time-critical logistics across the UK.

Our 𝟭𝟯𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 tells a slightly different story from the business-critical deliveries we usually share.

At 1.45pm, a customer called us in a panic. Their passport was more than 150 miles away and they needed it urgently.

Isabelle provided a quote, arranged the collection and kept everything moving. The passport was collected by 3.30pm and safely delivered to the customer by 7pm that evening.

Good preparation starts with understanding where the pressure points are likely to appear.

Double check the details that matter - collection and delivery addresses, named contacts and access instructions.

Identify the critical parts, materials or equipment that could stop work if they arrive late.

Speak to your regular logistics providers about capacity and make sure you have a dependable alternative if they become stretched and tomorrow is too late.

Last week Courier News featured our MD Jamie Boyd in an article on the future of small businesses in the logistics sector.

It centred around some quite surprising statistics:

In the UK, more than 800,000 companies across all industries have an average director age of 60 or older and, according to the Office for National Statistics and Department for Transport, around 92% of registered enterprises in the freight transport sector employ fewer than 10 people.

UK Advisory and Broker Data findings also show that four in five businesses brought to market fail to find a buyer, with poor preparation often cited as a contributing factor.

As a founder himself, and having completed two acquisitions in recent years, Jamie is well qualified to talk about exit and succession plans for owner-operators in the logistics sector.
