Some days you sail and you think it's going to be good. And some days are just that. Others you have no real preconceptions, it's October it's nothing special and then the planets or maybe the moon aligns... and we end up with quite possibly the best day lugger sailing. Other classic boats other luggers, crew who stepped up massively and an old friend who jumped aboard and picked up this crazy lugger malarkey easily.

Nothing like some splicing just before we are due to sail. After adjusting the Burton last weekend the running end wasn't long enough. No 12mm polyester in stock so quick splice up using 10mm.

Managed to get another sail out on Silver Harvest today. Sea state not good in the bay so made our way up past the King Harry Ferry. Always interesting going up the river. The winds became very light so we decided to try rigging "Standing Lug". However this means moving the Burton into the Forward Halyard position but alas, this also means some emergency splicing mid sail. Ben is standing on the middle thwart whilst splicing in the air! This rigging makes light wind sailing really simple but has highlighted to us the need to look at the forward thwart over winter.

After turning around, a breezy sail back down the river and conveniently stopped at Custom House Quay for refreshments.

We're hoping for a couple more sails before Silver Harvest is laid up for winter.

For the last few weeks we have planned sails on Silver Harvest but have had to cancel either due to poor weather or too strong winds. The forecast this weekend has been just as fickle and unpredictable. However despite the persistent rain this morning we remained optimistic and hopeful that the sun would be out by 1pm. Our brave crew mustered at 12, in the rain, discussed the forecast and thought what's the worse than can happen?!
We got wet! But Silver Harvest sailed beautifully, even when the wind shifted a full 90degrees.
It's not all bad... We got some sun just as we were heading back to the mooring.
