As we race towards 2026, I’ve been reflecting on what has truly been a year of two very different halves.

The first six months of 2025 were a whirlwind. I collected a new car (which I’m still very much in love with 😄) and, on the very same day, left a job I genuinely loved. After three years of saying I’d never work for DSV, saying goodbye to the Schenker brand and some incredible colleagues was far harder than I expected. That chapter will always hold a special place in my heart.

In February, I took on a new role with what appeared to be an exciting, award-winning FinTech business. From the outside it looked fantastic, but the reality was very different. By May, it was clear that the environment wasn’t right for me. I believe in coming to work, doing a great job, and leaving with a sense of achievement, not spending the day navigating negativity or office politics.

June became a much-needed reset. After four of the most challenging months of my working life, I took time to recover and reflect and decided it was now or never to do my own thing.

Fast Forwarding officially launched on 1 July, with my first shipment landing just three weeks later. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength. I’ve joined BIFA (the British International Freight Association), become a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade, and joined Somerset Chamber of Commerce. I’ve attended local networking events, met some truly inspiring business owners and solopreneurs, nearly rented a commercial unit (long story there) and made over 900 sales calls.

Looking ahead, 2026 is already shaping up to be exciting, with two exhibitor stands secured at BizFest26 and Autumn Fair 2026.

It hasn’t been plain sailing. I’ve learned just how stressful cash flow can be, how much self-belief matters, and discovered (to the surprise of those closest to me!) just how impatient I can be. But I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve been in a very long time. Running your own business brings a different kind of stress compared to a 9–5, but I don’t regret it for a second.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and helped me over the past six months. And if anyone needs support with logistics or supply chain requirements, you only have to ask (had to sneak a small sales pitch in there!).
