Nesting swan info :🦢❤️🦢

Swans can be highly territorial, especially during the spring breeding season. To stay safe and protect the birds, people should keep a respectful distance, ensure dogs are on a short lead near rivers and lakes, and avoid any disturbance.

Disturbing a swan’s nest is a criminal offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, as swans, their nests, and eggs are strictly protected. It is illegal to damage, destroy, or disturb an active nest, or to interfere with eggs or dependent young.

Do not feed swans on or near their nest. Leaving food in these areas can attract predators such as rats, foxes, and seagulls, which may destroy eggs or kill hatchlings. It can also draw in rodents that may burrow beneath the nest, increasing the risk of collapse.
Additionally, uneaten food can become mouldy, leading to harmful bacteria and disease that threaten both the swans and their young.
