Pontikus - Global Marine Registry

Pontikus - Global Marine Registry Pontikus is a curated marine registry for sea lovers, coastal experts, and shoreline businesses. They fall for something specific. One Registry.

Find port cities, seaside resorts, coast paths, sustainable seafood, maritime terms, log entries, marina markets, dockside deals, digital services and more .. The Deep Water
Nobody falls in love with a coastline they found on a generic travel website. A stone harbour at a particular state of tide. A fish market that has worked the same dock for three generations. A master boatbuilder whose hull kn

owledge spans a century and still smells of timber and salt. That kind of coastal intelligence lives in real seafaring communities and harbour towns, not in stock photos. It sits with the inshore fisher who reads a reef the way most people read a road. It belongs to the maritime lawyer who knows the legal architecture of working ports, the marine biologist counting oceanic wildlife along a fragile stretch of shore, and the cliffside bed and breakfast that has been quietly excellent for twenty years yet invisible online. The coast has always known things the internet has never caught up with: surfside economies behind the beachfront industries, the portside commerce that keeps shoreline jobs alive, the coastal resilience work happening in the background while tourists chase sunsets. Pontikus is where that changes. Boundless Horizon. Pontikus is the Local Marine Registry built for people who actually know the water β€” and for those who want to learn from them. No corporate gloss, no filler, no algorithmic noise. Just 18 coastal regions across the British Isles, Atlantic Europe, the Mediterranean, East Africa, Asia Pacific, and North America, connected by one clear chart for coastal tourism, seafood sustainability, shoreline protection, and marine conservation.

A coastal researcher’s fieldwork kit has one golden rule: the sea gets the final say. 🌊

The essentials are practical, not glamorous:
πŸ““ A waterproof notebook for recording species, shoreline changes, weather and water conditions
πŸ₯Ύ Sturdy boots for grip and protection on rocky ground
πŸŒ™ Tide tables to help plan safe, well-timed observations between high and low water
🧭 A compass, pencil and careful eyes: because β€œI’m sure it was over there” is not a reliable survey method!

Accurate coastal observations begin with the basics: note the date, time, location, tide stage and weather. Small details collected consistently can help researchers understand changing shorelines and marine life.

Family challenge: on your next seaside walk, choose one safe spot to observe. What can you record without disturbing the habitat?

Freshwater meets seawater: and a whole network of coastal life begins. 🌊

Estuaries are transition zones where rivers flow into the sea. Their changing tides and salinity create connected habitats for fish, shellfish, birds, plants and other wildlife at different stages of their life cycles.

These waters link river catchments, saltmarshes, mudflats and the open coast. For many species, an estuary can provide feeding grounds, shelter or nursery habitat before they move elsewhere along the shoreline.

That connection is why estuaries matter: not as isolated places, but as living links between inland waters and the wider marine environment. 🐟πŸͺΆ

This Day in Maritime History is not always marked by a date in a textbook. βš“

Sometimes, it lives in the stories passed from one generation to the next: the fishing grounds known by local crews, the ferry route that connected neighbouring communities, the dock where families began their working lives, or the coastal trade that kept a town moving.

These memories are more than nostalgia. They preserve practical knowledge, maritime vocabulary, working traditions and the human history behind our ports and shorelines. They help younger generations understand how coastal communities were built : and why those places still matter today.

Do you remember a fishing boat, ferry, dock, harbour worker or coastal tradition that shaped your family or community? Share your memory in the comments. 🌊

Tuesday Maritime Quiz βš“

Which place best shows aquatic connectivity: a river, estuary, harbour or open sea?

The answer is: all can be part of a connected system.

A river carries freshwater downstream. An estuary is where fresh and salt water meet. A harbour connects vessels, communities and trade. The open sea links local waters to wider maritime routes.

Together, they form one aquatic system: moving water, people, species, goods and stories across the coast.

This week, i-MarCo 2026 brings maritime and coastal perspectives to Vigo, 2–4 September. It is a timely reminder that coastal connectivity is geographic, economic, ecological and cultural.

What would you choose first: and why? Tell us in the comments.
