This is a DISASTER, and it's getting worse. Days after top travel executives sat down with Trump to fix America's tourism collapse, the government's own numbers show August was the worst month yet — with international visits falling 12% from a year ago.
July was down 7%. August was down 12%. The problem isn't leveling off. It's accelerating.
And it's not one bad market dragging down the average. Every single region fell. Africa: down 25.5%. Central America: down 20.6%. Western Europe: down almost 15%.
Of the top 20 countries that send tourists to the US, only three grew at all: Israel, Taiwan, and Poland.
So far, travel to the U.S. is down nearly 6% year-over-year.
The industry had one job this summer: make the World Cup work. Instead, host cities cut hotel rates by a third just to fill rooms, and the tournament came and went without moving the needle.
Meanwhile, the United Nations' own tourism agency just slashed its global growth forecast in half, from 3-4% down to 1-2%, specifically because the US is dragging the whole world's numbers down.
The travel bonds. The visa crackdowns. The rhetoric. The world is watching how America treats visitors, and right now, it's repsonding with its wallet.
