JUST LOOK AT THAT BEACH! BARBADOS IS CALLING… 🇧🇧 🌞

I posted about Barbados earlier this year, and now the summer weather has turned into grey skies, I can't help wishing I could be back there. 🌧️ I’d happily swap the clouds for Caribbean sunshine again!

THE EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING… P&O CRUISES WINTER 2028/29 PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

If you’re already dreaming about your winter escape in 2028, now is the time to start planning! P&O Cruises’ brand-new Winter 2028/29 programme is on the horizon, and pre-registration is officially open, giving you the chance to register your interest ahead of the upcoming launch dates.

I’ve spotted two very different cruise options that could be worth putting on your wish list.

Fancy some winter sunshine? A Canary Islands cruise could be just the ticket if you’d like a change of scenery during the colder months. It’s an option worth considering if you want to escape the British winter and have something lovely to look forward to.

Or how about something completely different? A Northern Lights cruise from Aurora could be just the thing if you’re looking for a more unusual adventure and an experience that stands out from the usual winter getaway.

🚢 A FOUR-MINUTE TOUR OF AMBASSADOR AMBIENCE – COME ABOARD WITH ME! ⚓

Join me for a four-minute tour of Ambassador Ambience as I show you around the ship and share what life on board is really like. With 798 cabins, Ambience offers a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and is an excellent choice for solo travellers. From spacious cabins and generous storage to restaurants, bars, entertainment and leisure facilities, there’s plenty to discover.

Built in 1991, Ambience is now 35 years old, but don’t let her age put you off. She offers a traditional cruising experience with plenty to enjoy, whether you’re relaxing on a sea day or getting ready for an evening of dining and entertainment.

🛏️ SPACIOUS CABINS WITH PLENTY OF STORAGE

One feature that genuinely impressed me was the amount of space in the cabins. There’s plenty of room to settle in, with generous storage for clothes, suitcases and holiday essentials. It makes a real difference when unpacking for a longer cruise.

🍽️ A RESTAURANT FOR EVERY MOOD

There’s plenty of choice when it comes to dining, from the traditional table service of the Buckingham Restaurant to the more relaxed Borough Market and Alfresco Grill.

For something a little different, you can explore the speciality dining options, including Saffron, with its Indian-inspired flavours, and Sea & Grass, which offers a more refined dining experience.

👨‍🍳 THE CHEF'S TABLE – A VERY SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One of my personal highlights was experiencing the Chef’s Table. For £89 per person, plus paired w**es, we enjoyed an impressive multi-course dining experience, with w**es selected to complement each course.

What made the evening even more special was the behind-the-scenes galley tour before service, hosted by the Executive Chef. It was a fascinating opportunity to see where the magic happens before sitting down to enjoy the meal.

🍸 BARS AND LOUNGES

Whether you fancy a quiet coffee, a cocktail before dinner or live entertainment in the evening, there are plenty of places to unwind.

From the elegant Raffles Bar and Botanical Lounge to the traditional pub atmosphere of The Purple Turtle, the panoramic views at The Observatory and a relaxing coffee at Dickens Coffee House, there’s a venue to suit every mood.

🏊 LEISURE, RELAXATION AND ENTERTAINMENT

There’s plenty to keep you occupied on sea days, too:

💆 The Green Sea Spa, with treatments and relaxation facilities

Ambience delivers a traditional style of cruising, with a friendly atmosphere, a good variety of dining options and plenty of facilities to enjoy.

My advice? Don’t judge a cruise ship by its age alone. Consider the overall experience, the facilities, the itinerary and what matters most to you.

A SPECIAL EVENING AT THE CHEF’S TABLE – AMBIENCE

Last night onboard Ambassador Ambience, I had the chance to experience the Chef’s Table — and it’s definitely an experience I can recommend.

Before service began, we were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship’s kitchen with the Executive Chef. It was fascinating to see the scale of the operation and the preparation that goes into producing so many dishes.

From the applewood-smoked oysters and duck liver parfait, through to the pan-fried turbot, there was plenty to enjoy. But for me, the highlight was the Surf & Turf — Black Angus beef fillet with half a lobster tail, Béarnaise, roasted garlic butter, chive mashed potato and grilled vegetables.

We finished with espresso crème brûlée and cotton candy, followed by a selection of cheeses, coffee and petit fours.

What made the evening particularly special was being able to see what happens behind the scenes before service, then experience the finished dishes for ourselves.

It was relaxed, personal and a real insight into the work that goes into creating the dining experience onboard.

£89 plus w**e pairing — and absolutely an experience I would recommend if you're sailing on Ambience.

🇫🇷 A WET BUT WONDERFUL WALK AROUND HONFLEUR

Even though it was a wet day, I really enjoyed my time exploring Honfleur during my cruise visit.

From the cruise port, it’s around a 20-minute, flat walk into the centre, which makes it really easy to explore independently without needing transport.

Once I reached the town, I just wandered for a couple of hours — and that’s probably the best way to experience Honfleur.

I loved walking through the old cobbled streets, admiring the historic buildings and the character of the old town. There was time for a coffee stop, sitting back for a while and watching the world go by.

I also had a little time for some shopping, buying a shirt for that evening !

As someone who enjoys art, I particularly enjoyed browsing the galleries and sculptures dotted around the old town.

I got my steps in walking around the marina and waterside, enjoying the views and beautiful setting, even in the rain.

Honfleur really is one of those places where you don't need a strict itinerary. Just walk, explore, stop for a coffee, browse the shops and galleries, and take in the atmosphere.
