This webinar will launch our final report and walk you through the project’s headline findings, showing how e‑cargo bikes and other forms of e‑micromobility provide a range of benefits including can reducing car use and what this means for future transport policy.

All are welcome but the event may be particularly interesting to national, regional, and local transport and active travel policy makers; active travel charities and industry stakeholders; urban planners and transport consultants; public health and environmental organisations; local communities or academics interested in active travel and e-micromobility .

E-cargo bikes as a personal transport mode in the UK: Insights from surveys and suburban trials

E-cargo bikes could play a transformative role in reshaping personal mobility for some, with benefits including reducing car dependency, improving physical and mental health and facilitating family activities.

Some key findings:
🚲Only 2% of English households own an e-cargo bike, yet 11% of non-users say they’d consider riding one.
🚲Regular users drive less and are more likely to meet weekly physical activity targets.

🚲In real-world trials, 49 households cycled 38–42 km/week — with over half of that replacing car trips.

🚲By autumn 2024, 1 in 5 trial households had purchased an e-cargo bike.

Essentially:
🚲 E-bikes make active travel more accessible to people
🚲 E-cargo bike borrowers from the ELEVATE project reported mental-health benefits on top of combining fitness with functional trips
🚲 E-bike users from low-income houses were found to use their e-bikes MORE than wealthier buyers
🚲 E-bike incentives can help low-income households become less car-dependent
🚲 E-bikes CAN and DO get people out of their cars

We're still taking participants for our Physical Activity Experiment.. If you're a in or know someone who cycles in Leeds, please do share!

We at the Elevate Project are running a research study to evaluate physical activity when using in comparison to non-electric

🚲We're looking for participants who ride bicycles in on a regular basis
🚲 We're running the study throughout June (maybe July) in the hopes that the weather will be pleasant
🚲 The study shouldn't take more than 2 hours of your time, and, it's a great opportunity to test an e-cargobike
