Ilford Islamic Centre

Ilford Islamic Centre The official page of Ilford Islamic Centre - Ilford's Central Mosque. You can see a list of all the services here.

Ilford Islamic Centre is the largest and most famous Mosque in Redbridge and is now very well known not just in London but throughout the country. It has developed over the years into a centre which has become a focal point for the muslims of Redbridge, providing a variety of facilities to serve the community. Situated in the heart of South Ilford and within close proximity to Ilford Town Centre,

the Mosque is easily accessible by all forms of transport and this in turn results in large congregations especially during Jumah prayer time. The Masjid has a large number of members who every three years engage in a transparent and thorough election process to elect a Management Committee – this consists of 11 members and they are responsible for making the decisions which effect the day to day running of the Mosque. The role of the mosque extends beyond that of providing for Jumah and the obligatory prayers. The IIC sits on many community and voluntary committees and has representation on the East London Three faiths Forum, Redbridge Racial Equality Council, Redbridge Council of Faiths, Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE), Redbridge Police Consultative Committee Group, Racist Incident Panel, Redbridge Voluntary Sector Network, the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) and Helping Hands.

REMEMBERING: Imam Ahmad Rida Khan — The 14th Century Reviver of Islam, “Alahazrat”

Imām Aĥmad Riđā Khān al-Ĥanafī al-Māturīdī al-Qādirī al-Baraylawī was the Grand Mufti of India, the grandmaster of tafsīr, ĥadīth and fiqh, and the peerless Ĥanafī jurist of his time. Born in 1272 AH (1856 CE) in Bareilly, North India, he was authorized to issue fatwa at just fourteen years old — a competence acknowledged not only by his father but independently verified by senior scholars of his time.

Upon his second Ĥajj in 1323 AH, the scholars of Makkah and Madīnah were so struck by his erudition and his tireless efforts to safeguard Ahl as-Sunnah that they hailed him as the Mujaddid — the Reviver of the Religion — for the 14th Islamic century. The philosopher-poet Allamah Iqbal likened him to “the Abu Hanifah of his era.” He himself preferred the title Ábd al-Muşţafā — the slave of the Prophet ﷺ.

A life of scholarship. He mastered fifty-five branches of knowledge — from fiqh, ĥadīth, and Qur’anic sciences to logic, astronomy, trigonometry, and calligraphy — and authored over 600 works across 50 subjects, including his monumental 30-volume Fatāwā ar-Riđawiyyah and Kanz al-Īmān, his celebrated Urdu translation of the Qur’an.

A life of humility and generosity. Despite his stature, he lived simply — wearing plain clothes, eating modestly, and giving away whatever he had to the poor. Visitors often failed to recognize the unassuming man before them as the famous Alahazrat.

Everything he did was in the love of the Prophet ﷺ. He was immersed in this sublime love, and to this day he is identified by it. Insha’Allah, he will be raised on Judgement Day with his beloved ﷺ — for on that day, one shall be with those whom he loves. Some of his sayings:
“Concentrating on Allah Almighty after drifting in thoughts is Jihad al-Nafs (Striving in the way of Allah Almighty), and Jihad against the lower self is the great Jihad.”

“A spiritual shaykh who does not respect and follow the Sharī’ah is himself in darkness and totally incapable of illuminating someone else’s path or guiding them. Such people are disciples of Shaytan and the enemies of Islam.”

“By Allah! Were my heart split into two — one part will have inscribed لا اله إلا الله, and the other part محمد رسول الله.”

He passed away on Friday, 25th Şafar 1340 AH, as the call to Friday prayer sounded — “Come to success…” His final will urged his followers to hold fast to the light of the Prophet’s ﷺ love, to honor Allah’s friends, and to distance themselves, without hesitation, from anyone who disrespects the Messenger ﷺ.

*REMEMBERING: Daata Ganj Baksh Ali Hujwiri*

Sayyiduna Shaykh Ali bin Usman Hujwiri a grand Mufti and intellectual of his era (~1000 years ago), travelled the Muslim world extensively and contributed significantly to the spread of Islam in South Asia. Blessed as a prominent Shaykh he authored a master piece (still widely available today) the ’Kashf-ul-Mahjoob’.

Through the ages the book has served as a shaykh to those who do not have one and a guide to those who do.

The indispensable book establishes a balance among all dimensions of Islamic thought and practice, with spirituality as the reviving spirit of the whole.

One of which is a well-known anecdote of a great shaykh who said to one of his disciples: "Strive to say continuously for one day, 'O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!' and do the same next day and the day after that," until he became habituated to saying those words. Then he bade him repeat them at night, also, until they became so familiar that he uttered them even during his sleep. Then he said : do not repeat them any more, but let all your faculties be engrossed in remembering God." The disciple did this, until he became absorbed in the thought of God. One day, when he was in his house, a piece of wood fell on his head and cut it. The drops of blood which trickled to the ground bore the legend "Allah! Allah! Allah!"

The likes of Sultan ul Hind Sayyidi Moinuddin Chisti have said the following about Sayyiduna Ali Hujwiri

‎گنج بخش فیض عالم مظہر نور خدا
‎ ناقصاں را پیر کامل کاملاں را راہنما۔۔

The ‘Bestower of Spiritual Treasures’, whose blessing is all over the world, he is a manifestation of the Light of Allah
He is the Perfect Master for the spiritually destitute; the Guide of the Perfect.
