Over the last 2 decades 100's of people have helped in many ways to make the railway station an attractive 'gateway' to Hunmanby. Last year this was reflected in Yorkshire in Bloom Gold awarding Hunmanby station a Gold Award. The certificate is now displayed at the station entrance.

Thanks to Damien for the photos of the autumn/winter Rail Head Treatment Train at Hunmanby. This year using 2 x Class 37 diesel locomotives operated by Colas Rail Freight. These distinctive locomotives where built 60 years ago by English Electric, at the former Vulcan Foundry, in Newton-le Willow. Affectionately called 'Tractors' due to the distinctive sound of their engines, which resembles the noise of a tractor, especially on the climb from Hunmanby to Speeton.

Hunmanby station this weekend won a Gold at the Yorkshire in Bloom 2025 Awards, in the 'Railway Stations & Transport Hubs.

Category Winner was Sowerby Bridge, with 3 other local stations also receiving a gold - Beverley, Bridlington and Hutton Cranswick.

also on the local railway line Cottingham station has been transformed this year and received a well deserved Silver Gilt.

Hunmanby is an unstaffed station, it was its first entry into Yorkshire in Bloom, and has been a great community effort. Special thanks to Pop Ins and Hunmanby Careers and Cared for Group for planting up the flower tubs this year and helping with fence painting. The award would not have been possible without the continued support from local train companies, Trans Pennine Express and Northern plus local businesses. But most importantly the increasing number of people who use the village station and enjoy the pleasant environment - 'Nature is balm to the soul.'
