Thomas Harrhy wheelchair fundraising page

Thomas Harrhy wheelchair fundraising page Weʼre raising £10,500 to provide a custom built wheelchair and all terrain mobility attachments for Thomas. This will provide a new level of independence.

Thomas is 17 years old and faces daily challenges with cerebral palsy, global learning delay and anxieties. His cerebral palsy effects his legs predominately and his main mode of transport is via a wheelchair. Throughout multiple times of Thomas's childhood he has operated a number of manual wheelchairs to get him around. His current chair purchased 5.5 years ago has in recent times become unsuite

d to his change of needs and to his change in physical stature. We are looking to secure a custom built wheelchair that is tailored to his size, seating posture and physical capabilities. The design and portability of the wheelchair due to it's weight and portability features will enable him to travel with his support workers (in their own cars) rather than rely on an adaptive vehicle with his electric chair. The enormous benefit of the design of the wheelchair is its lightweight but extremely robust frame. Despite Tom's cerebral palsy effecting his left arm he will be able to independently move around without anyone pushing him. This fundraise is also looking to secure a battery power back wheel that can be operated via a watch strap. This amazing mobility aid will assist him up steep hills in Ross-on-Wye so he can independently move around without limitations. Thomas over the years has enjoyed the joy and thrill of a battery powered trike to his existing wheelchair. Over the last 5.5 years Thomas has used it on many occasions when cycling with the family, camping or walking along country lanes. Sadly his existing trike is not compatible to his future wheelchair. Thomas is a determined individual who is encouraged not to rely on others but to source ways to overcome challenges. Would you consider donating towards Thomas's new mobility aids to enable him to be even more independent as he enters into early adulthood and beyond. Your donation will provide him with a new level of freedom that will enhance his quality of life.

So just before Christmas we finally received Thomas's battery powered trike that is the final attachment for his new wheelchair.

Thomas plans to do many such walks in 2022.

Thank you to all those individuals who donated in 2021. The donations helped secure the very best quality wheelchair that is made to measure. Powered back wheel that converts his manual chair into a battery one but much more portable. A very special front wheel that helps him get over rough paths.

Along with the amazing individual supporters we also had support from an amazing charity named Ross-on-Wye Lions Club. Their hearts & willingness made a very significant and sizeable donation that enabled us to reach our fundraising target. If you come across their fundraising efforts you can see from this post how they positively impacted Thomas's life

In 2021 we raised just over £18k that now empowers Thomas to do activities we all take for granted.

Thomas wants to wish you all a very Happy New Year and you may see him speeding around in 2022!

Tom was delighted to be made aware that an awesome £620 was presented to him for his fundraising collection.

This money was raised by an amazing collection of Ross-on-Wye residents.

They are all so kind hearted, community spirited generous group of friends and neighbours who planned and organised a socially distanced open garden event during a number of days this week.

From the bottom of Tom's & the rest of the family's hearts, Thank you!

We are getting there folks. Next week I have some news I can't wait to share.

Monday was such a great day for Thomas. I am delighted to say we have successfully completed the first purchase of three big items for him.

We picked up his made to measure custom built wheelchair from RGK Wheelchairs factory. Accompanying his wheelchair is his all terrain front wheel and all terrain tyres.

He is so delighted with the fit. The fit is perfect and so much more comfortable. So we want to honour all you wonderful supporters who have made his dream possible. Thank you!

However, we still continuing on to provide essential power on attachments that will transform his boundaries. A power wheel that attaches to the back of his chair and a battery powered trike that attaches onto his very snazzy wheelchair.

Please keep sharing and mentioning Thomas's fundraising just giving page.

Planning to create a flyer that is laminated. To be placed in cafes, retail and noticeboards. Do anyone have connections to any of such places? Can you help introduce us?

Thank you to everybody for their encouragement, their support and willingness to share and mention Tom in their news feed.

This is the moment Tom tried out a demo wheelchair at the RGK Wheelchairs factory in Burntwood, Staffordshire.

RGK is a leading force in wheelchair design and manufacturer.

So Tom has been measured for well over 30 individual measurements to ensure it fits his personal requirements. The focus on posture and in particular his ergonomic seat and backrest.

So the model Tom is aiming for is the Octane FX made out of Grade 9 titanium. The beauty of titanium it has natural vibration absorbing qualities which allows for a smooth ride.

One of the amazing features of this particular chair it can be compacted and folded into a briefcase style shape. They say it could fit into an aircraft cabin luggage holdall.

Tom will be beaming from one ear to the other when we reach our goal for him.

So it has been 5.5 years ago we did an amazing job in securing Thomas an everyday wheelchair and battery powered trike for him.

The chair has been a great servant to him but sadly due to Thomas changing needs from his wheelchair we have had to identify a new wheelchair with supporting attachments that is custom built to his specific support needs.

To all those of you who have encouraged and cheered him over the last 5.5 years we ask whether you might consider again in supporting him.

The fundraise is for three main parts.

1. Everyday wheelchair + all terrain front wheel
2. Battery powered back wheel
3. Battery powered trike. (existing trike not compatible with planned new wheelchair)

I plan to publish future posts outlining in more detail about each of the above parts and how it will impact his early adulthood years.

Please watch the video. Please like and share this page and video. I am very keen in connecting with anyone who is willing to help and participate in any fundraise activities i.e bake sale

Thank you

Thomas has really used his trike a lot on our holiday.

He explored places that the wheelchair would be so hard for long periods of time. We walked miles along the sea and coastal walks.

I thought it would be nice for all those who helped Thomas 5 years ago. As he is getting older he is using it so much more. The is such a wonderful gift you have given. Made such a positive impact.

Thank you once again.

There are moments that we break through Tom's anxiety fears and he forgets his worries.

For moments like these I am glad Alison and I keep reminding him of the motto. "There is no such word as can't". Was hard this time and stand by and see him motor along the beach. He could have flipped over.

We could have him safe and sound next to us but would have missed out with this moment.

Today for a time he forgot his self imposed boundaries, broke free and just enjoyed the wind in his hair.

Thank you to all those who helped us make these moments happen for Tom. Your fundraising efforts really has helped make a positive impact into Tom's life. Thank you.
