So far this year, the Centre's minibus drivers have done more than 4,000 trips from the Centre out to ships' gangways to pick up and drop off seafarers. Nearly 13,000 seafarers have been carried to and from their ships in our two minibuses!

Yesterday we had a visit to the Centre by the ladies of Nacton Women's Institute. They very kindly donated some hats, teddies and cakes for the seafarers. Centre Manager Roy gave them a short talk about the Centre and what we do for seafarers.

We have received a lovely long letter, written at sea, from the captain of a Chinese ship that visited Felixstowe. He said how reassuring it is to see the Centre's minibus arrive at the ship's gangway, adding that "someone is here to pick you up" speaks more than words. The welcome at the Centre transports crew members from the steel shell of their ship to "the real world". Felixstowe is a place that always keeps its light on for seafarers he said. With the letter was a gift of a dozen tins of Chinese tea and some greeting cards for the staff and volunteers.

Richard, one of our volunteer minibus drivers, did an 8-hour shift yesterday and it was a busy one. A total of 44 seafarers picked up from their vessels and 16 returned to their ships before the evening driver took over.

A number of seafarers from the OOCL Valencia visited the Centre yesterday. Their vessel, built in 2024, is amongst the largest container ships in the world, being 24 boxes wide, 400 metres long, over 220,000 tonnes and having a capacity of 24,188 teu.
