Another common assumption is that palliative care should only be considered in someone’s final days.
That can mean people wait longer than they need to before asking about support.
Palliative care is most effective when considered early in the course of an illness, helping improve quality of life and reducing unnecessary hospital admissions and use of health services.
At Foyle Hospice, our Specialist Palliative Care Team can help holistically with symptoms, as well as providing emotional and psychological support.
If you or someone close to you is living with a life-limiting illness, you do not have to wait until things become overwhelming before asking what support may be available.
Palliative care. It’s not what you think.
