⚡️🚌 £2 fare cap in the SPT (Strathclyde) region from 7 September 2026 🚌 ⚡️

We are pleased to confirm that eligible Ember services will see reduced fares under this scheme. The initiative is designed to make bus travel more affordable across the region, and joins a similar scheme in the Highlands area that started earlier this year.

Ember is an intercity operator, so the cap affects our services slightly differently. The £2 fare cap will affect Ember's trips (or parts of trips) within the SPT region and the Highlands region, but not all journeys right across Scotland at this stage.

Any single journey entirely within the new fare cap area will cost no more than £2.

For journeys leaving the area, passengers will still partially benefit as the portion within it will be capped at £2 and the usual fare will apply to the rest. Here are a few examples:

- Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station to Glasgow Airport: £2, down from £4.35
- Glasgow to Fort William: £4, down from £15.55. This journey benefits from two fare caps: the new one in the Glasgow region and the existing cap in the Highlands.
- Glasgow to Dundee: £10, down from £11.05
- Any fares already under £2 do not change

We appreciate that this is all a little complicated on paper, but the good news is that:
- The new fares will be calculated and applied automatically to bookings once the scheme starts
- Nothing will change in Ember's super easy online booking system, and you don't need do do anything differently
- This went very smoothly when introduced in the Highlands, and we expect the same here

If you have any questions once the scheme gets underway, we'll be happy to help via the usual support channels.

⚡️🚌 New route time.... Ember's E20 service will connect central Glasgow with Edinburgh Airport 🚌 ⚡️

From 2 September we're launching a new, high frequency link between Buchanan Bus Station and Scotland's busiest airport in Edinburgh.

The service will run 24/7 with a 20 minute frequency throughout the day. As usual for Ember, the E20 runs seven days a week, including public holidays.

It also stops in Chapelhall, Harthill, Heartlands and Livingston Deer Park. The stops in Harthill and Heartlands will become available from 9 September, after an initial week of express services.

It costs just £7.55 for an adult single between Glasgow and Edinburgh Airport if you book online (whether you book weeks before or a minute ahead).

This new route is already showing on Ember's live map (https://www.ember.to/map) and tickets are on sale now at www.ember.to

As always:
- there are no hidden 'booking fees' for valid concession card holders, free really means free
- well-behaved pets are very welcome
- each bus has space for two bikes, and we'd recommend that you book your bike space in advance to guarantee your spot

⚡️🚌 Ember are hiring drivers in Skye! 🚌 ⚡️

We're launching more new routes across the Highlands, and increasing our frequency on others.

We've been in the Highlands for almost two years, and we've been running across Scotland since 2020. Ember are growing fast, with the fleet expanding significantly every year, and we're here to stay.

If you’re keen to progress your career in intercity coach driving, and would like to drive our state of the art 2025 and 2026 plate electric coaches, then we'd love to hear from you.

If you'd like a casual chat with one of our existing drivers before applying formally, we can arrange that too.

With a local starting pay rate of £16.50 per hour and a guaranteed increase to at least £17.30 per hour once you've been with the team for a year, there are also regular opportunities for overtime.

We offer 40 guaranteed hours each week so that Ember's drivers know their established take home pay (even if they are scheduled for fewer hours), and we are also happy to adjust the guaranteed hours for any drivers who would like the confidence of guaranteed work alongside the flexibility of working part-time.

Ember offer flexible annual leave bookings - meaning that drivers can choose and request their own holidays, meaning flexibility for that all-important downtime.

Even if you’re not a driver but you know someone who might be interested, please tag them below.
