This Refugee Week, we’re sharing stories of colleagues across our network – highlighting the role employment can play in helping people rebuild their lives.

Before joining Menzies Aviation, Mila spent more than 20 years working in public service in Ukraine but was forced to leave her home when the full-scale conflict began in 2022.

Arriving in the UK, Mila faced the reality of starting over – navigating a new city, learning to communicate in a second language, and adapting to unfamiliar systems and routines. Even everyday moments, like using public transport or preparing for a job interview, became important milestones along the way.

Today, Mila is part of our team at London’s Heathrow Airport where she works as a Customer Service Agent. Her determination and positivity have made her a valued part of our team. She is proud of how much she’s grown – professionally and personally.

Speaking about her journey, she explains: “My journey is not only about loss; it is also about strength, hope, and the determination to create a new future for myself and my children.”

Tent Partnership for Refugees

Three years ago, we joined the Tent Partnership for Refugees. During that time, we’ve moved from ambition to action.

Working with Tent has helped us expand our refugee hiring efforts across multiple markets, share best practice with like-minded businesses, and embed inclusion into our broader workforce planning.

With 120 refugees hired across Menzies, we’ve seen first-hand what works:
• Looking beyond traditional talent pipelines
• Investing in onboarding and long-term support
• Partnering with organisations, like Tent, that bring expertise and scale

Three years on, the key learning is that when businesses take a structured, long-term approach, refugee hiring delivers real impact - for businesses, people and the communities they’re part of.

Great to see Menzies Aviation on the agenda as we work with the High Commission to strengthen aviation ties with Bangladesh and explore opportunities to support this fast-growing market.

British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke met PM Adviser Humaiun Kobir to deepen the UK–Bangladesh partnership, including aviation opportunities with Airbus and Menzies Aviation, as well as closer cooperation on migration, disaster preparedness, and the Rohingya response.

When Franky joined our team in Cancún, he was starting again in a new country with one goal: to build a better future for his family.

With support from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, he connected with our employment programme in Mexico and joined our team in an entry level role. Franky also moved into Casas Menzies, our employee housing for more than 340 colleagues in Cancún, Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta.

From day one, Franky’s work ethic and commitment stood out – and it wasn’t long before he progressed into his current role as Operator A.

Today, Franky continues to grow, expanding his skills and building a career with real leadership opportunities ahead of him. He has not only had the chance to establish and progress a career but also support his family in Cuba.

This Refugee Week, we’re proud to share Franky’s story and the role partnerships can play in helping people rebuild their lives, earn a living and realise their potential.

No single organisation can tackle refugee employment alone. That’s why partnerships are critical.

We’re proud to work with UK for UNHCR – our official global charity partner – to support UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and help refugees access meaningful employment and rebuild their lives.

Together, we’re focused on getting people into jobs, removing the barriers to employment, and supporting them as they settle into new roles.

The impact is already visible across our network. In Mexico alone, more than 60 refugees have been hired across our airport operations, with support for accommodation and transport.

Globally, we’ve hired more than 120 refugees – building pathways into aviation careers and contributing to more inclusive economic growth.

By working in partnership, we’re helping to create new opportunities, and highlighting what’s possible when businesses commit to this long-term.

By the end of 2025, more than 117 million people had been forced to flee their homes.

For many, finding work in a new country is not only one of the hardest parts of starting again, but one of the most important.

At Menzies Aviation, we’re focused on changing that. By working with UK for UNHCR and Tent Partnership for Refugees, we’re creating access to jobs, providing practical support like accommodation, and helping refugees build a future.

We’re proud to have provided meaningful employment to 120 refugees, many of whom are now building long-term careers.

This Refugee Week, we’re reflecting on the role businesses can play in creating opportunities for displaced communities and helping people succeed once they’re employed.

We’re creating a unified global cargo platform with the integration of Air Menzies International into our Cargo division.

By combining AMI’s freight forwarding expertise with our global network and operational support, we can deliver a more connected end-to-end service.

Customers will continue working with the AMI brand they know, now supported by the scale, reach and capability of Menzies Aviation.

After a highly competitive process, just seven companies were shortlisted from 46 submissions 👏

Congratulations to ABOMIS, Amadeus, Denali, GroundOps (Aviation Support Services), Robotics Journey, Zebra Technologies and Zest IoT.

Each will now pitch solutions focused on boosting efficiency, productivity, and safety & security across our operations.

Next step: live proof-of-value trials, with the opportunity to scale globally.

Sport has the power to bring people together and create hope. ⚽

Through our global charity partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, we’re supporting their Gamechanging Team campaign with our Keepy Uppy Challenge.

Employees are invited to get involved by filming their attempts, sharing messages of hope for refugees, and nominating others to keep it going. Don’t forget to tag us when you do!
