Sad news.. RIP Ray. 😔

This morning I received some incredibly sad new. Ray "Ride4Life" yesterday lost his battle with cancer and rode from this world to the next. I'd chatted to Ray over the last few weeks by telephone and text and I'd planned to go down to see him at the end of the summer. Sadly, our meeting

We all use our beloved bikes for different purposes. Many purchase a Tenere 700 for hard off-road riding, some for trail riding and others for their daily commute. Mine does a bit of everything but I mostly use it for touring. One thing I’ve wanted to do for a while now is to find a way to carry fuel and water with me and it’s been a bit of a head scratcher, but with the upcoming tour into Europe now on the horizon, I decided to buckle down and figure something out.

PICTORIAL REVIEW/FIRST IMPRESSIONS – PREPARING FOR EUROPE – OPTIMUS POLARIS OPTIFUEL STOVE
https://overlandrider.com/pictorial-review-preparing-for-europe-optimus-polaris-optifuel-stove/
When looking at stoves for the upcoming trip into Europe, I came across the Optimus Polaris OptiFuel Stove. Whilst attempting to research and compare it to the Primus OmniFuel II, which is a popular choice on several motorcycle camping social media groups, I found very little useful information and generally the same (poor) stock photos. As such, I’ve spent some time photographing this one properly, in the hope others will find this pictorial review useful.

After a lot of toing and froing, youtubing and reading posts in this group (many thanks everyone!) I finally settled on a sleeping pad/mat and pillow. I'm hoping the £250 investment proves worth it but I guess I'll find out in a few weeks time. I have to say, I was slightly tempted by the AliExpress mat for £6.78 but decided not to be cheap and ignore the screams of my credit card.

UPCOMING REVIEW – REDVERZ ATACAMA 2 EXPEDITION MOTORCYCLE TENT – PREPARING FOR EUROPE

In further preparation for the upcoming overland trip into Europe this year, it was time to look at my tents. I own a few tents but only two of them see regular use: the Hilleberg Staika 2 man dome tent, which I’ve now owned and used constantly for the last 30 years and a North Face Trailhead 6 which is now about 9 years old and is the tent of choice for family trips. The Hilleberg has been my goto motorcycle tent but after 3 decades I think it’s served its purpose incredibly well, but I’d now like something that will give me a tad more luxury, and space to park the bike in at night. Enter the RedVerz Atacama 2..

There’s been a huge amount of chatter on social media regarding the need (or not) to lubricate modern O ring type chains. Many FB group members commented on my recent post regarding Scottoilers, and a large percentage of comments centred around lubrication of any kind being somewhat redundant. A friend and reviewer in the US, sent an email to Vortex Racing, the main US distributor of EK Chains, to ask them for a definitive answer and their reply was most enlightening.

First impressions, comparisons, installation and first ride review now published with video and image gallery. I've tried to address and answer all questions and concerns mentioned in the previous pre-review threads. Worth the money or cheap rubbish? Will they slice your hand off in a fall? Do they work as practical mirrors and which small DIY fixes make them better?

UPCOMING REVIEW – MOTO-TEK HAND GUARD MIRROR KIT – AS GOOD AS ROTTWEILERS BUT 5 X CHEAPER

I decided to swap out my Double Take mirrors for a set of hand guard mounted mirrors. The Rottweiler and Moto-Tek versions look identical. If you're UK/EU based one will cost you $420 delivered, the other $60 delivered.. So will the latter hold up to closer inspection or do you really need to pay an average worker's weekly wage for a set?
