Sometimes in life you have to make decisions that to others might seem reckless but to yourself make a lot of sense.

Ive been around the world and seen some amazing places, done many amazing things howevr there was always something on my bucket list that would never be fulfilled whilst I was married.

I've just paid a deposit and booked 2 weeks in North Korea May 2025. Height of the mosquito season, humidity at about 90% and a good chance of 25 years hard labour if I do what all other para reg guys do when on holiday. But it is SO on my list - I literally am fascinated by this batsh*t place , I've just got to see it for myself.

Yes, i want to dive with sharks in South Africa and tickle polar bears in the Arctic but theres time.......... I want, NO, NEED North Korea on my passport!!

A little over 6 months in business now and we've got over 70 cleans now under our belts and a lot of satisfied clients, many of them repeat orders. A good 20% have been referrals so we are getiing a good name out there. Its been a slow month for personal reasons, both myself and my business partner have had to take a bit of time away for family reasons however now back and firing on all cylinders!!
Most of you reading this will be very familiar with the Keelkrab concept. Regular robotic cleaning of the hull keeps it in pristine condition, keeps fouling to a minimum and helps increase fuel efficiency and performance. Hi guys. - Well its been an incredible 6 months for Pegasus Keelkrab and as a brand new start company we've made a LOT of friends in the local maritime community and have just cleaned our 60th boat which has far exceeded our expectations. We've cleaned everything from racing yachts upto a 90ft ocean growing ketch and pretty much everything in between. Location wise we've gone as far as Brighton and down to Weymouth though most of our work seems to be Southampton and Poole though we are happy to go anywhere!
We are the ONLY company on the south coast offering the Keelkrab service and one of only half a dozen in the UK. It is MASSIVE across the Med, Europe and US where the warmer waters can allow barnacle growth in weeks however here in the UK all owners will know just how much a few months worth of slime and beard affects a boats performance. Back on an 80 foot sloop today for a monthly clean. This boat is a workhorse and sails constantly around the Med though based here in Southampton. At a cost of £7K to lift and clean that's a hefty chunk of change although essential for her performance. We are cleaning the hull monthly ensuring she is at optimum performance all year around and it costs a lot, lot , lot less than the annual lift and scrub. We are also completing a full hull inspection at the same time with hi-res MP4 video so any issues can be addressed before they become problems.

We appreciate your boat is probably a lot smaller however the concept is still the same. Regular hull scrubbing ensures optimal performance all year around and reduces the need for lifting with users lifting on average every 3+ years as opposed to annually.

2 very happy boat owners in Weymouth where we did bot a Keelkrab clean and a hull swim. Obviously this is NOT hull diving and we have marina permission but it allws us to do props /. shafts etc, those fiddly little bits that Keelkrab can't cover.

MASSIVE amount of hard growth scraped off so the owners will notice a massive difference in performance.

We've cleaned everything from racing yachts upto a 90ft ocean growing ketch and pretty much everything inbetween. Location wise we've gone as far as Brighton and down to Weymouth though most of our work seems to be Southampton and Poole though we are happy to go anywhere!
Another service we have added is "Hull Swimming". As you all know many marinas are incredibly strict about diving and HSE requirements require 3 men up for 1 diver down which for a 10m yacht is a bit of overkill however they will allow cleaning with "unassisted breathing" . Where marinas allow, we are able to swim clean the props /legs / shafts etc - all those fiddly bits that KeelKrab can't get to. We have also done about a half dozen jobs where we have been taken to an area outside the marina and swam the hull with no restrictions. Happy customers and shiny clean hulls!

Here's a fantastic article from the February 2023 edition of Practical Boat Owner in which the author describes how he saves money on hull cleaning by doing it himself.

Its quite an involved job which, if you can do it yourself is great - save yourself hundreds however for those of you that aren't SBS trained and have an olympic standard of fitness its a bit unrealistic, still each to their own.

The author, Andy Peg, describes doing it every 8/10 weeks which is an ideal time to launch the KeelKrab at it .
