Katy lives in Crewkerne (in the middle of the Yeovil constituency area), a town she has called home for over five years, and works in Yeovil for the NHS. She grew up just over the border in Dorset. Her political awareness is evidenced by her work in Westminster including as a consultant to the Backbench Families and Education Committee and as an Independent Town Councillor in Crewkerne. If elected

, as an Independent MP Katy would not be effected by party whip: she would be able to promote the best interests of the area without concern for party lines. She is prepared to stand up for her beliefs against the voice of establishment. Of her campaign, Katy said “I want to provide a credible alternative choice for disaffected voters. I’m aware that all too often politics is about protecting the party image. I’m just not interested in party politics any more: I just want to do what is right by the people in my community.

According to a recent YouGov poll, “floating voters” (people who do not consistently vote for a single party) make up nearly half of the electorate, giving Katy more than a fighting chance to win the Yeovil seat. Katy stands on a platform of addressing the unique needs of our area; tackling transportation problems, protecting our environment and addressing social issues. Katy is passionate about contributing to her community, and has a wide range of experience to draw upon
- She can often be found litter picking with the Rotary club or stewarding and fundraising for local charities.
- She has championed initiatives to preserve native species as chair of the local nature reserve committee
- Amongst the voluntary roles she had held, she currently volunteers as a children’s mentor through Promise Works and has previously sat as a school governor and volunteered on ‘Sense’ holidays. Katy intends to fund her campaign entirely from her personal savings, so you won’t be bombarded with literature. She has indicated her intention to attend any hustings to which she is invited and available to attend.

Even if it's raining where you are, if you are sat at home wondering if one vote will really make that much difference; please remember every vote matters. You could make the difference!

I've taken the day off work to respond to campaign correspondence which is coming in thick and fast (...and collect the car from the garage, maybe even catch up on life admin, and if I'm really efficient, I might manage lunch at Bilby's!). Today is going to be a good one!

6.30, BBC1, Points West - keep an eye out for a friendly face.

I was out of the constiuency for a work meeting so couldn't make the live filming, but drew a crowd of Wiltshire voters who asked the crew who I was as they heard me talk and wanted to vote for me. There is such an appetite for real community representatives.

Please vote for the candidate you want to represent you and your area: not the one the national press or local campaigners are telling you is the one you have to vote for!
