Abu Simbel in Egypt is one of the most striking & awe-inspiring monuments in all of Egypt. It stands as a colossal testament to Ancient Egyptian artistry and their precision in architecture and engineering. Although ostensibly dedicated to the ancient gods Amun, Ptah, & Ra-Harakhty; The Great Temple of Ramses II was, in reality, an egotistical show of power commissioned directly by and for the Pharaoh Ramses II. He was the star of the show, with his likeness on four imposing colossi, being worshipped as a god. Would-be invaders from the south would see this bit of towering propaganda, turn tail and run the other way. It was intended to both frighten and stoke admiration.

Never fear, Tiny Tyler is here!

After a very brief (but embarrassing) oversight,
Tiny Tyler has arrived on the scene overnight.
Where will you spot him, far or near?
As he sits like Burt Reynolds spreading holiday cheer.

Who will be the first to spot him?!

Happy Vlogmas 2025!

We’ve been so many incredible places all over the Iberian Peninsula since I last posted from Madrid. We visited Lisbon (possibly my new favorite place in the world), along with three places in the gorgeous Galicia region of Spain - Vigo, Santiago and La Coruna. We traversed the Straight of Gibraltar, shuffled through castles and churches, walked through some of the world’s greatest museums, and saw so many breathtaking vistas it’s a wonder I have any breaths left. Now we’re in another one of my happy places: London. It has everything I ever want in a city - fascinating history that dates back thousands of years, incredible art, world class museums, amazing architecture, great food. What more could one ask for? I’ve have approximately 12 hours of footage so far from this trip and 10,000 photos. Coming to a YouTube near you, Summer 2027!

(I still have to edit the 12 hours of footage from last summer’s trip first. I know, I know. But like the late great Regis Philbin said, “I’m Only One Man!”.)

24 hours in, and I’ve already fallen in love with Madrid. The streets here seem to buzz with activity, but no one is in a rush. I feel like I keep searching my vocabulary for the perfect descriptor for this place and I keep coming back to one, very simple word. Madrid is cool. It’s just freaking cool. It may be simplistic and dumb, but I’m simplistic and dumb, so I stand by it. Perhaps over the next few days I’ll find better words to describe this place, but for now, I’m sticking with cool. It has also been just about the most welcoming place we’ve ever been. Every Madrileño we’ve met has been incredibly friendly and welcoming.

We toured the Royal Palace of Madrid today (Palacio Real de Madrid), and that was also….well cool! But the coolest part, at least for me, was the fact that they had not 1, not 2….but 4 Stradivarius instruments on display.

Wicked | June 9, 2005 -> June 20, 2025

Amazingly, I’ve only seen Wicked on stage twice, despite having been obsessed with it to an unhealthy level for many decades. I saw it once in Chicago, on my 13th birthday in 2005, and again today, nearly 20 years to the day, in Indianapolis, on our 10 year wedding anniversary. Maybe I’ll see it again in another 20 years on another major event in my life? Inauguration Day?

It's been 10 years since I updated my profile picture and cover photo. I figure about once a decade, a refresh is probably in order. I hope you enjoy the new photographs until 2035.
