Now that autumn is drawing in I should tell you about some of the maintenance Steadfast has had over the summer, most recently the anchor chain. I've known for some time that it's not a good idea to have the end of the anchor chain shackled to the boat as it was on Steadfast. A short length of rope at the bitter end enables the ground tackle to be easily cut away in case of emergency. Pulling the chain out of the locker to splice on a rope, to shackle the end to the boat, also gave me the chance to measure and mark it. It turns out that there is a little over 45m of chain which i've marked every 5m. Three links yellow, green and red. Then six links of each colour and then nine of yellow and green followed by the last two meters in red to mark the end.

Steadfast has come up the Thames estuary into London again. It's very subdued here in St Katherine Dock this morning with all ensigns at half mast, but we're looking forward to seeing old friends and new at a lower key classic boat festival. Come and say Hi.

Steadfast returning to the UK. Bruges - Nieuwpoort - Ramsgate. The little tug enjoying a bit of travel in her retirement after a working life pottering around Southampton Water.
