Sat having my breakfast at the Wookey Hole Hotel looking out at this grey day.

Currently reading Steve Reed’s book Poor on the Moor - based on his life growing up in Newcastle.

Have you got your copy yet?

For those who don’t know him, Steve is a coach and group tour organising legend, although I’m sure many of you in the industry know him. He is also one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.

Laughing and crying in equal measure at Poor on the Moor.

Steve, I’m gripped by your story, you write so well - for a lad born in Cowgate 😜

Made me laugh when you talked about your first dog Major who used to roam the streets- as many dogs did. And how your parents sent him out with a note tied to his neck to tell you ‘tea’s ready’, and he’d come and find you!

This is how I developed my fear of German Shepard’s when I was bitten by one roaming the streets. Wonder when this dog roaming rule was changed? Can you imagine today with so many cars on the streets!

God I sound like I grew up in black and white. Times have changed so fast.

We’ve recently returned from a holiday in Sharm el Sheikh Egypt.

We’d booked this trip back in September 2025 way before the US military attack happened, and Iran started retaliating, targeting tourist hot spots in the Middle East like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. 😩

So, we had to make a big decision, as many friends and family were questioning why we were going.

We didn’t want to take a risk but there were also no foreign office warnings against going, so we weren’t going to get our money back if we’d pulled out.

Aargh what to do!

So we went and luckily had a lovely, trouble free holiday - apart from the dodgy stomachs!

According to my research, Eygpt currently remains a ‘neutral mediator’ in the ongoing talks and its tourism economy hasn’t been as affected as I imagined.

Whereas the Dubai and Abu Dhabi tourism economies have lost billions. 😢

As of yesterday 2 May, the UAE air space is back open, but who knows what’s to come with so many crazy leaders at the helm.

So if you’ve booked or are thinking of going go to Eygpt, this was our experience.

Here’s a fact: 90% of people who live in Sharm are employed in or linked to the tourism sector. People travel in from across the country to work six days a week to earn a regular salary. Their work ethic and hospitality is exceptional. Big appreciation goes out to all the visitor elves there!

But if you’ve decided not to go abroad this year check out Wookey Hole (hotel or lodges with hot tubs) and spend a week exploring Somerset! The Somerset coast can be wonderful too even if you can see the fish, the sand is gorgeous! 😂

We stayed at the Jaz Mirabel Park at Sharm el Sheikh and travelled with Tui.

It was a lovely day yesterday for the launch of Wookey Uncovered - the new heritage tour and tasting experience.

Nikki from came suitably dressed with her clown make up! 😂

The team did a sterling job of delivering this new heritage tour with Wookey Cheddar 🧀 and Somerset cider tasting🍎.

Only pics I didn’t get were cheese and cider. So emojis it is.

It’s been a fair few years since Wookey Hole developed a heritage experience focused on attracting the non-family audience.

It’s a great day out alongside a game of crazy golf and a wander around the penny arcade and hall of mirrors - if you fancy a day out.

I have a new playground!

Well actually, it's a job, but it's in a place that is full of fun and 'wow' moments.

From next week, I shall be joining the team in-house at the crazy, wonderful Wookey Hole Caves as Head of Marketing. Eek!!

Boy am I excited.

It’s almost 10 years to the day that I have been self-employed. Such a big change. Take it easy on me guys 😆

I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has given me contracts and referrals over the past 10 years. Thanks to you, I have been able to be at home with my children. Now I can't wait to get back to work for some rest 🤣.

If you are in the world of visitor attractions in and around Somerset, I look forward to seeing you in my new guise very soon.

Be prepared for lots of Wookey love and facts (not spam obvs.).

PS For those who listen to the Visitor Elves podcast (which has taken a back seat for a while), I’ll share what’s happening soon.

PPS, this random pointy photo is from one of the only professional shoots I have ever done for my business, just weeks before getting this job and now I am trying to find reasons to use them.

So have you guessed it?

Of course it’s the River Grill restaurant - part of where I met with the wonderful Jane Guy - one of my many Bristol tourism friends.

What a view!

Gorgeous and very reasonable lunch too. Monday - Thursday they’ve got a whopping 25% too, so if you’re in the city and you’re looking for a special toasted sandwich with halloumi and harrisa 😋 or smoked salmon and avocado you’re sorted. Service was exceptional too.

I could have sat and people watched all day.

So easy to forget about this place but I highly recommend it.

Today we are heartbroken.

One of our beautiful cats, Tilly, has passed away. We are all devastated.

She has been a part of our family for 13 years.

Working from home for the past 10 years, she’s been my constant companion. Often in the back of a Teams or Zoom call.

I miss her terribly.

God, it’s hard to lose a pet.

If you see me in the next week I shall be trying very hard to keep it together, please bear with me.

So sad.

RIP Tilly.
