This page is designed to give the local community a better idea about what happens at the airport, including an opportunity to see behind the scenes. Biggin Hill Airport lies at the heart of a community of residents and businesses. One of just three commercial airports within the boundary of London, it is much more than just a place for aircraft to land and take off. Biggin Hill is a cluster of en

gineering and technology companies for aviation and related industries where people are trained and developed into well paid sustainable jobs. Biggin Hill plays a huge role in the local community, from offering educational trips for schools and community groups to supporting apprenticeships and local community initiatives including fundraising and donations to local organisations. Close to 1,500 people work at the airport, often in skilled positions with a host of employment opportunities related to each business here.

Earlier this month, FlyaSpitfire.com had the privilege of hosting the Taxi Charity For Military Veterans – a volunteer led organisation helping to combat loneliness and isolation for former servicemen and women.

The charity organised a very special day of events dedicated to veterans, including three remarkable World War Two veterans – Ivan Staines, Alfred Cooley and Paul Terry. They had the chance to fly in a Spitfire, something none of them had experienced before.

With the sun shining, a three-ship Spitfire formation took Ivan, Alfred and Paul to the skies over the Kent countryside for an unforgettable flight. The group then landed back at London Biggin Hill to celebrate and share this incredible experience with family and friends.

We are delighted that these distinguished guests enjoyed their special day. Thank you to the team at Fly a Spitfire and the Taxi Charity for coming together to honour our veterans with incredible opportunities like this.

Meet Aoife – Head of ‘Barketing’, Gizmo – ‘Paw-ject’ Manager, and Winston – Security Officer, currently on ‘paw-trol’.

When we asked them what they love most about SkyPets, our dedicated pet handling service, they highlighted the space and privacy at London Biggin Hill, the delicious biscuits, and our caring colleagues who make every pooch feel special from arrival to departure.

Today is National Aviation Day and World Photo Day! To mark the occasion, we're sharing some moments that capture life at London Biggin Hill Airport.

From the first sight of sunrise over the airport to the glow of our runway after dark, and aircraft arrivals and departures set against the iconic London skyline, every minute of the day presents a different perspective on our operations.

Alongside the unique environment, our busy colleagues are the heartbeat of London Biggin Hill, creating countless special moments worth capturing and reminding us of the dynamic nature of aviation where no two days are ever the same 📸✈

On this day 86 years ago, the Hardest Day of the Battle of Britain was fought in the skies above our country. We remember, with pride and gratitude, Churchill’s Few who flew with skill and courage throughout the Battle of Britain, supported by dedicated crews and operational staff.

It is a privilege to see Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft taking off from our airport to this day, while the RAF Biggin Hill Museum & Chapel stands on-site, preserving and sharing the stories of the men and women who served at RAF Biggin Hill and the vital role they played in Britain's wartime history.

At London Biggin Hill, we take pride in our rich history and the role RAF Biggin Hill played in the Second World War as Winston Churchill's 'Strongest Link'. Our aptly named ‘Strongest Link Garden’ stands tall overlooking the runway as a place of reflection to those who visit and a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country - ensuring their courage, service and memory lives on for future generations.

Yesterday, we had the honour of hosting Ken for his 100th birthday, with a special Afternoon Tea at The Lookout! 🎉🎂

Friends and family came together to mark this incredible milestone, enjoying a lunch complete with tasty sandwiches, crumbly scones and a selection of delicious sweet treats.

The afternoon was made even more memorable with a visit from the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Christine Harris, who kindly joined us in wishing Ken a very happy 100th birthday.

It was wonderful to see our guests having such a lovely afternoon and making lasting memories with loved ones. We hope Ken, his family and friends enjoyed their Afternoon Tea and celebrations!
