Late-season northern lights tours now. Last night there was an unusually large amount of blue in the sky—one of the rarest aurora colors, and truly beautiful in photos. The downside is that we can’t really see the blue aurora with our own eyes. Luckily, Mother Nature painted the sky with other colors and dancing lights as well. We had another amazing night.

The Northern Lights and Mother Nature can sometimes be unpredictable — and maybe even a little mischievous. 🙂
Yesterday we headed out around 8 PM and drove about an hour to the northern parts of Kittilä, where the trees are low and the view of the sky is wide open. The satellite data didn’t promise anything spectacular, but there was still some activity up in space, so the decision to go was easy.
For most of the evening we could see faint and gentle lights in the sky. But after 10 PM we noticed more energy building up in satellitedata, and the activity started to increase significantly.

Patience was the key once again, because at around 00:30 AM we were rewarded with an incredible dance of the Northern Lights across the sky.
And as my guests told me yesterday — it was absolutely worth the wait.

With this amazing group, we have spent several unforgettable days together. Our journey has included visits to reindeer and husky farms, admiring the magical SnowVillage, and relaxing at the Arctic Spa. Last night we chased the Northern Lights, and today we snowshoed through the breathtaking landscapes of the national park, watching a dipper and a whooper swan feeding in the rapids — all in temperatures of −23°C.

Last night we were outdoors, and the weather had turned properly wintry again. It was −28°C, and Mother Nature decided to reward our battle with the fog with an unbelievably beautiful dance of the northern lights. WOW — what a show we got to witness.
