Teagan's class just completed a unit on markets and the exchange of goods and services. Their final project was to have a market. The kids decided on items to sell and services to provide and the customers were the parents and their second grade buddies. The kids made magnets, bracelets, woven coasters, squishies, cute little tic tac toe sets, and more. They had a couple games, a photo station, a food table, and sold tickets to a comedy show. Families volunteered to make the food, Teagan and I made cupcakes, there was popcorn, cookies, brownies and fruit skewers as well as lemonade and iced tea. Teagan's class made €150 which they are going to use for an ice cream party. Teagan sold out her cupcakes before the comedy show even started 😁

Teagan attended a birthday party yesterday for a class mate that was a pool party. She swam like the little fish she is and suckered herself right out. I came down from putting Dom to bed and found her and Poppa asleep on the couch. Not sure what Poppa's excuse is 😆

Dominik's favorite food right now is Greek yogurt and he insists on feeding himself. This has led to a lot more baths for some reason...😅

Nik took the kids swimming this evening while I worked on dinner, and it was impossible not to notice how much Dom has changed over the past few weeks.
When we first started taking him to pools and splash pads, he wasn't quite sure what to think about the water. These days, especially with the Madrid heat, he can't wait to get in! His routine is pretty much the same every time: first he lounges around in his flamingo float, happily drifting and splashing, and then suddenly decides he's had enough of that and starts climbing over the side to get into the water himself. 😂
While watching him float around tonight, Nik commented that the flamingo's head kind of looked like the dragon prow of a Viking ship. Naturally, that led to the question, "I wonder what ChatGPT would do with that?"
A few seconds later, Viking Dom was born. ⚔️😆
I have a feeling Odin's Arc may have found its youngest crew member.

Teagan spotted a pair of Egyptian geese (thank you for the ID Gene!) with their adorable little brood of goslings in the river when we stopped at the swing stop (a bridge underpass set up with a bunch of different and really cool swings).

🚲☀️ Apparently one giant bike ride wasn't enough... 😅
After Nik and my epic ride on Friday, we decided to do it all over again yesterday—but this time as a family adventure. Dad wanted to come along, and since we only have two e-bikes, Nik volunteered to ride my mom's old bike so Dad would have at least a fighting chance of keeping up with us. 😂
I loaded both kids onto my bike, and we headed off through Casa de Campo once again. We followed the river toward Toboganes de Madrid Río and finally made it to the splash pads that were closed the last time we visited. This time they were open—and absolutely packed with families escaping the Madrid heat!
🌊 Teagan quickly decided the cool fountains sounded much better than climbing on hot metal playground equipment, so we locked up the bikes and let the kids run wild in the water. After they were thoroughly soaked and completely happy, we hopped back on the bikes and continued on to the playground at Plaza de España.
After some climbing, running, and tire-swing adventures, we decided dinner was the next logical stop. We rode back toward home and stopped at our local VIPS (basically Spain's version of Denny's, but with much better food 😆).
Knowing he would be slower climbing the hill home on mom's old bike, Nik headed out early to get a shower before helping with bedtime. Dad and the kids finished up dessert before starting the final leg home.
And that's when the adventure got interesting...
A few minutes after leaving, Dad and I accidentally got separated when he took a different route. Then, while trying to turn off a path onto the sidewalk, I misjudged the edge of the curb and dropped my rear tire into a rut. The impact apparently separated the tire from the rim, leaving me stranded at 10:45 PM with two kids, one cargo bike, and a completely flat tire. 😳
Thankfully, Nik had just finished his shower and Dad had just made it home, so they jumped in the car and came to rescue us. The kids got loaded up and whisked home to bed while Dad and I walked the bike the rest of the way home—him pushing from behind whenever we hit the hills because that thing is HEAVY! 💪😂
Definitely not how I pictured the day ending, but after a 19-mile bike ride and a 2-mile walk, I can confidently say I got the workout I was looking for.
Two 20+ mile rides in two days, plus biking the kids to school all week? I was more than happy to spend today doing absolutely nothing. 😁
(Well... except for attending one of Teagan's classmate's birthday parties. But I'm still calling it a rest day. 😆)

🇪🇸❤️ One of those days that reminds me why we took the leap.
Lately, I've been riding my bike more and more to take the kids to school. What started as a way to get some extra exercise has become one of my favorite parts of the day. This morning, after dropping the kids off, I kept riding and met Nik at Casa de Campo for a little adventure.
We spent the day exploring trails, climbing hills, and discovering viewpoints we'd never seen before. Standing above the city with views stretching across Madrid, the Royal Palace, and the Cathedral, it was one of those moments where you stop and realize just how much life has changed in the last year.
When we first talked about moving to Spain, we dreamed about spending more time together, being outdoors more, and having experiences like this. Today felt like one of those days where all of that became very real.
The drone photos don't even do the views justice. 🌳☀️🚴‍♀️
It's amazing that a place as wild and beautiful as Casa de Campo exists right in the middle of a city. Every time we visit, we find a new trail, a new viewpoint, or another reason to come back.
Sometimes the best days aren't the big vacations or major milestones. They're just a bike ride, some sunshine, and a few hours spent with your favorite person. ❤️

Teagan had a classroom concert scheduled at school yesterday. After our sad morning at the vet hospital, we gave her the choice of staying home and skipping it, or going back to school. She decided she didnt want to miss her concert so we all headed back to school. It was amazing watching a class of first graders manage 3 separate instruments and remember when to play them for which parts of the story. It was a lof of fun and there was also a lot of dancing. It was a wonderful way to make the day a bit better and I am so proud of her for how she handled the entire day 🥰

Today was a hard day. We had to say goodbye to Bernie and let him cross the Rainbow Bridge. We knew it was coming but it still felt sudden, he had been doing so well with the chemotherapy that it was hard to tell anything was wrong with him. But the tumor in his spleen ruptured and began bleeding into his abdomen and he went downhill fast. As we pulled out of the driveway, I made a split second decision to pull Teagan out of class and have her come with us to the hospital. I did not want her to come home from school to find him gone and not have gotten to say goodbye. That happened to me as a child of 10 when our family dog died and it has stuck with me my whole life. As hard as it was for her to be there, she and I both agreed she was much happier to have gotten to hug him and kiss him and say goodbye. We talked about how Grandma Judy would be waiting for him and be so happy to see him again and have someone to keep her company. I think that really did make her feel better...it made me feel better. It still feels like I lost another piece of her, which makes the grief two-fold. But I do like the idea of them being back together. I used Chat GPT to make a couple images for Teagan of them together. We are going to miss his scruffy little snoot and endless floppy tongue something fierce, the house wont be the same without him. We love you Bernie. Say hi to Mom for us ❤️
