Yesterday was the day for this post, but I was sick in bed, and I just thought that today is as good as yesterday to keep speaking up.
The usual words are how women we can achieve anything, how strong we are, how the future is ours and bla bla bla.
And yes, that’s true, but the reality is that many of us, in our everyday, we have to go through small, constant things that shouldn’t be normal... the interrupted sentence, the opinion that needs to be repeated by a man to be heard, the joke that isn’t really a joke, paternalism, the doubt about our abilities before we even begin.
And let's not forget the big issues: domestic violence, sexual harassment in many different contexts, fear of assault in public spaces, earning less than men for similar work, fewer opportunities, social pressure about our appearence, in some parts of the world limited access to education or restriction of human rights... the list is long. These things happen to all women in all parts of the world, and very often. In my life, I have had to go through some of these things in different times, as all the women I know.
So let's not celebrate how far we’ve come, and let's keep fighting every day of the year for all the things that still need to change.
We will keep speaking up, and we will keep moving forward!
And I want to remember here all women in Mungere's maasai village. Our project to take the water to the village keeps taking baby steps. Very soon, we'll be able to announce the crowdfunding to get the necessary funds for the project. And we'll need all your help! 💪🏽🧡
