Shalom – Value Yourself

Shalom’s Value Yourself is finally back in stock, a welcome reissue from Coptic Lion carrying fresh new roots recordings from Jamaican singers Mike Brooks and Shalom on the same River Nile riddim.

This cut keeps things warm, conscious and direct, with Shalom delivering a sincere vocal over a steady roots foundation. The riddim has that deep, flowing feel, simple but effective, giving enough space for the message to come through with clarity.

Paul Blackman – Earth Wind & Fire

Paul Blackman’s Earth Wind & Fire returns in a fresh new form thanks to Prince Fatty, who discovered the original 4-track tape while working through old Jamaican reels from Bunny Lee’s estate. Originally produced by Augustus Pablo and released on Rockers International in Kingston in 1979, this is a roots and dub favourite with a deep connection to the classic Rockers sound.

After hearing the original multi-track recording, Prince Fatty restored and remixed the tune at his Lewisham studio, adding guitar, organ and extra percussion to bring more body to the original arrangement. The result keeps the spirit of Pablo’s production intact, but gives the track a fuller, clearer and bass-heavier sound.

The vocal cut carries that late-70s roots feeling: spiritual, steady and full of weight. On the B-side, the new dub opens the rhythm properly, letting the bass, drums, piano, organ and guitar move through the mix with more space and pressure.

A respectful reimagining of a Jamaican roots classic, carefully restored and rebuilt for today’s sound system decks and home hi-fi alike.

Dean Andy – Follow You Around

Follow You Around is a great vocal roots obscurity from the UK scene, originally released on the London-based Jungle Beat label around the early 80s. A cut with that rough and sincere roots feeling, far from polished productions but full of character.

Dean Andy’s vocal rides the riddim with a natural, heartfelt delivery, giving the tune a deep and slightly haunting edge. The rhythm keeps things steady and direct, with a strong bassline, simple arrangement and that underground UK roots flavour that makes these lesser-known releases so special.

One for those who dig beyond the obvious names and labels, especially if you’re into rare UK roots, small-label productions and records with real sound system spirit.

Joan Reggae Drummer – Stronger Together

Stronger Together is the first studio album from Joan Reggae Drummer, a 10-track project recorded between Catalonia, Jamaica and Brazil, with sessions connected to the legendary Tuff Gong Recording Studios and a strong line-up of Jamaican and international guests.

It is not every day that a drummer leads a reggae album from the centre of the creative process, and that is where this record stands out. Joan builds the music from the groove upwards, clearly inspired by the legacy of Carlton Barrett, the heartbeat behind so much of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ classic sound.

The album carries a warm and organic roots feeling, with drums, bass, keys, guitars and voices working together in balance. Across its ten songs, Stronger Together moves through themes of social consciousness, freedom of thought, love and collective responsibility, with unity as the main thread.

A mature and ambitious work that respects the Jamaican foundation while bringing its own international touch. Classic roots values, strong musicianship and reggae as conscious music for today.
