Okay, we've got to admit: not only the testers, but also the weather gods seem to love our Pure 42. ;)

P.S.: even if the lyrics are German, have a look at the vid ... there are some really nice drone shots!

Yet another great sailing video from the Barcelona trials, where our Pure 42 got elected EUROPEAN YACHT OF THE YEAR by Europes leading sailing journalists.

This clip was edited by Pasi Nuutinen, who tested our Pure for the Finnish Total Vene magazin. While his written test report, that will be published in the next issue, is in Finnish, this clip is music and pictures only.

Today we had a real thriller going on at Pure Yachts – the de-mounting of our big crane, that has to be serviced and repainted.

Step 1: the nearly 40 m long arm is lowered down until the outmost tip sits on the ground.

Step 2: a mobile crane arrives helping to get down the arm completely ... to do so, the arm is splitted in two parts.

Step 3: the remaining bit of the arm with the massive hinges is disconnected from the crane tower and also lowered to the ground.

The procedure took a whole day. Holding the parts in position was a fingertips job for our crane operators - and a true nailbiter for everyone watching.
Great job Frank, Ole and Robs!
And big thanks, too, to Christof, the mobile crane operator from Wille-Krane, Kiel.
The actual painting and renovating action on the crane parts will take about two month.

Boatbuilding, as you probably know, is a very diverse profession, combining a wide range of completely diffrent materials and manufacturing techniques. A vocational training as a boatbuilder might be a bit more demanding as in other professions, but a well trained boatbuilder later on probably can master almost any kind of project.

At Pure Yachts we are blessed with having four fantastic boat building apprentencies, smart, skilled and highly motivated to learn. Yesterday, three of them – Gunnar, Juliane and Karl – got a special introduction into spray painting. The lesson was tought by Arne, an experianced collegue, who enjoys sharing his knowledge.

First step was a test with spraying plain water – hence no face masks and gloves in this picture. Then it got more serious with real paint and full protection.
Apperantly Arne and the three students were quite satisfied with their results, with only one single "runner" (yellow tape marker) that easily can be sanded off later on.

Well done Gunnar, Karl and Juliane!

While our Pure 42 and 49 are out on the water doing customer test sailings, attending boatshows and regattas, back home on the yard the two biggest parts for our second Pure 42 are laminated:
The decksaloon seating group and the decksaloon roof.

Both are light weight composit constructions made from glass laminat on the outsides and a foamcore within.

Baltic 500 - aftermath:

Apparently there has been an issue with Plumpi disliking the smell coming out of Urs' sea boots after two and a half days. According to well informed sources (Thanks, Einar!) Plumpi tried to burn the boots shortly after the docking manouver.
Here is what followed ...

Baltic 500 - Finish:

This morning at 7:41 am. our flying tin box aka Pure 49 "Gorre" has crossed the finishing line in Strande after 2 d. 21 hrs. 41 min. as 3rd yacht overall!

Huge congratulations to Matthias and Urs (and, yeah, I guess to Plumpi, too) for holding onto this great placing through really hard and testing conditions!

Big congratulations to the race winners Matthias Müller von Blumencron and Cole Brauer on the JV 43 "Red2" and to the second placed Wolf Scheder-Bieschin and Arnt Bruhns on their JV 43 "Vineta". Well done, guys!
Utmost respect also needs to be payed to all those smaller, lighter yachts still on the way, who really must have been struggeling hard up in the Kattegat and the Big Belt. To finish a race like this is really something to be very very proud of.

Baltic 500 - evening update:

The whole fleet had a very hard day, with 25 - 35 knots of wind, sometimes gusting up to 40, and a hard and steep sea directly on the nose. Proof for the harsh condiitions: 21 of the 53 competitors had to give up so far. Among those are the Sh**un 50 and the Solaris 50, who had sailed in 3rd and 4th position.
So our Pure 49 "Gorre", still going strong, is now in 3rd position overall.
A fantastic place, but hard earned with very exhausting sailing against wind and waves in nasty cold temperatures. That's why Matthias and Urs decided to bear awaysome degrees and rather set a course in the slightly calmer waters and windshadow of the biggest Dansih Island of Seeland. This move sure cost them some miles onto the two leaders, and also on some of the following yachts, but to me (sitting on my comfy warm sofa at home) it seems to be nothing else but wise and good seamanship.

At 21:00, heading into the third night, "Gorre" is now standing north of the Big Belt bridge, with the wind slighly dropped and more from the side again, but still with some 80 nm to the finish.

The race leaders, the JV 43 "Red2", closely followed by it's design sibling "Vineta", are some solid 40 nm ahead and still engaged in an epic close battle for 1 and 2 – great performance and spirit, guys!
But – once more - this praise goes out for our boys on "Gorre", too, once again showing that the exceptoionel strenght of an aluminium performance cruiser and a competetive mind set can go together very well on a Pure Yacht.

Baltic 500 - morning-update after the second night.

Matthias and Urs (okay, obviously that little green weirdo called Plumpi, too) have passed the northern turning point at Laesø at 1 am last night still in fith position, but 14 nm behind "Faju", the Solaris 50 in 4th. The two JV 43's and the Sh**un 50 have put a good gap between themselves and No. 4 and have a nice battle, with "Red2" still defending the lead. (first chart shot)

The course back south is hard upwind with 16 - 20 knots of wind and waves full on the nose, but "Gorre" is coping very well with these conditions, with good hight upwind and 8.5 knts through the water.
Thus, at 9 am. Matthias and Urs (and Plumpi, I guess) have managed to cut the distance towards "Faju" almost in half, now trailing the 4th place by only 7.5 nm. (Second chart shot)
And it very much looks like those hard upwind conditions will carry on for today, as the top of the fleet will approach the big belt. Together with the cold temperatures it seems to be quite exhausting, and I do hope that Matthias and Urs get some good recovery sleep in between - if Plumpi let's them ...

Keep on pushing "Gorre"!!!

P.S.: Plumpi seems to be some kind of chaotic Klabautermann - character living aboard "Gorre", drinking away the Rum reserves, snoring in his sleep and, when awake, causing all sorts of confusing debates with the crew. (Can't help thinking though that he vaguely resembles Matthias ... Or at least Matthias as a 6 year old.)
