✈️ Expanding global connectivity.

At Routes Europe 2026 in Rimini, Jiří Vyskoč, Executive Director Aviation Business Development at Prague Airport, highlighted Prague’s continued network growth.

Recent additions include Seoul, Toronto and Abu Dhabi, while Philadelphia launches this year. In August, Prague will also become STARLUX Airlines’ first European destination with service from Taipei.

Despite geopolitical challenges and higher fuel prices, Prague Airport continues to strengthen its global connectivity.

✈️ Resilience through connectivity.

At Routes Europe 2026 in Rimini, Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director Communications & Marketing at Athens International Airport, reflected on the challenges facing aviation in 2026 — from geopolitical uncertainty and energy pressures to changing booking patterns.

Yet Athens continues to demonstrate strong momentum.

Passenger traffic is up more than 5%, North American demand remains robust, and new services such as American Airlines’ Dallas–Athens route underline continued airline confidence in the market.

One message stood out: despite a challenging environment, Athens remains resilient, working closely with airline partners to strengthen connectivity and create new growth opportunities.

Ahead of IATA AGM 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Aviation-Event is gathering exclusive “State of the Industry” perspectives from international aviation leaders and stakeholders.

We are pleased to feature insights from Benjamin Zwack, MBA, Founder & Managing Director of zwack.marketing.

“Aviation is entering a decisive communications moment: The industry is no longer judged only by operational performance, network growth, or technological innovation, but by its ability to explain complex developments with credibility and trust.

The current situation in aviation and mobility shows that the sector faces challenges from multiple directions: rising customer expectations, sustainability demands, geopolitical uncertainty, new technologies such as electrified regional air mobility, and the ongoing need to closely manage cost trends are only some aspects of an industry that is as fascinating as it is complex.

What is obvious: these dynamics are no temporary disruptions. They are the new operating environment.

For airlines, airports, mobility providers, and industry institutions, strategic B2B and B2C communication has become a core business function. It must connect operational reality with public perception and translate transformation into understandable narratives.

My perspective is clear: the aviation industry needs strong, courageous, and transparent communication. Those who communicate only when they need visibility will fall behind. Those who build trust consistently, position themselves clearly, and engage honestly with stakeholders will shape the next phase of mobility.”

“Aviation does not recognise borders.”

Ahead of IATA AGM 2026, Julian Jäger, Joint CEO & COO of Vienna Airport, reflects on resilience, connectivity and why Europe must remain committed to aviation as a strategic asset for future growth.

As global demand for air travel continues to grow, maintaining competitiveness, strengthening connectivity and speaking with a unified voice will be essential for the industry’s long-term success.

“Aviation is one of humanity’s greatest achievements. It connects people, opens markets and creates prosperity on a scale once thought impossible.

This industry has faced crises before: pandemics, conflicts and economic shocks. Aviation was slowed down many times, but it was never stopped. It always adapted and came back stronger.

Yet resilience alone is not enough. Across the world, but especially within Europe, we see fragmented policies, different tax regimes and different levels of commitment to connectivity. While parts of the world invest boldly in aviation as a strategic asset, Europe risks falling behind.

Aviation does not recognise borders. It connects cities, economies and cultures with the same purpose everywhere. Europe must do the same.

The question is not whether aviation will grow. The question is whether Europe will be part of that growth.”

Ahead of IATA AGM 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Aviation-Event is gathering exclusive “State of the Industry” perspectives from international aviation leaders and stakeholders.

We are pleased to feature insights from Michael Eggenschwiler, Senior Aviation Expert, Board Member, Former CEO Hamburg Airport.

“The Aviation industry has learned to navigate constant disruption. Few sectors face such rapid and frequent changes to their operating environment as aviation - ranging from evolving technical regulations and shifting geopolitical priorities to fuel dependency and weather-related challenges, to name just a few.

Across all these areas, aviation has consistently demonstrated its ability to adapt and respond. This resilience is a core strength - one that we, as a key global industry, must preserve and further strengthen.

While this adaptability may not be equally developed in every region, our societies will only thrive with a well-functioning global aviation industry. Healthy competition remains essential for stable and sustainable development on a worldwide scale.

To secure a sustainable future, a strong and unified global voice is indispensable. The industry will only be truly heard when it speaks as one. This must be our shared commitment - regardless of geopolitical differences or developments.”

Ahead of IATA AGM 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Aviation-Event is gathering exclusive “State of the Industry” perspectives from international aviation leaders and stakeholders.

We are pleased to feature insights from Peter Oncken, Senior Advisor at TRIONIS Aviation GmbH.

“The aviation industry is operating in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, shaped by shifting political alliances, regional conflicts, and evolving trade dynamics. These factors continue to influence airspace availability, supply chains, and global connectivity. Yet, aviation has always proven to be a stabilising force—connecting economies, fostering dialogue, and enabling growth even in times of uncertainty.

Encouragingly, demand for air travel remains robust across most regions, underlining aviation’s fundamental role in global development. At the same time, the industry is demonstrating its capacity to adapt—diversifying networks, strengthening resilience, and accelerating innovation despite external pressures.

Looking ahead, aviation will not only respond to geopolitical change but help shape a more connected and cooperative world. By investing in sustainable technologies, enhancing operational flexibility, and reinforcing international collaboration, the industry is well positioned to turn today’s challenges into long-term opportunities.”

✈️ Capacity pressure. Operational disruption. Sustainability.

Three challenges. One message.

At Routes Europe 2026 in Rimini, Steven Small, Vice President Events at Routes, highlighted a reality the industry cannot ignore: aviation’s future will be built through stronger collaboration between airlines, airports, and destinations.

Because none of these challenges can be solved alone.

Routes Europe once again showed why bringing the industry together matters.

Ahead of IATA AGM 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Aviation-Event is gathering exclusive “State of the Industry” perspectives from international aviation leaders and stakeholders.

We are pleased to feature insights from Prof. Dr. Raphael von Heereman, Senior Political Advisor and Adjunct Professor at Antwerp Management School.

“Green aviation should not be viewed exclusively as a climate-related objective, but also as a strategic necessity for strengthening the resilience and long-term stability of the aviation sector.

Historically, geopolitical crises and energy shocks have repeatedly demonstrated how vulnerable aviation remains to fluctuations in oil and kerosene prices. From the oil crises of the 1970s to more recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, disruptions in global energy markets have consistently affected airlines, airports, ticket prices, and overall market stability.

While aviation remains essential for global mobility, trade, tourism, and economic development, the industry faces the challenge of reducing its dependence on finite fossil-based resources while maintaining connectivity and competitiveness.

In this context, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), hydrogen technologies, electric propulsion, digital optimisation, advanced air traffic management, and next-generation aircraft design represent important pathways toward greater energy diversification and operational resilience.

At the same time, this transformation will require significant investment, infrastructure adaptation, regulatory coordination, and realistic implementation timelines. The challenge is therefore not only technological, but systemic and geopolitical in nature.

The decisions taken during this decade are likely to shape the structure, competitiveness, and energy security of global aviation for generations to come.”
