Mexico’s busiest port is at a standstill again.

Since Nov. 24, the Port of Manzanillo has stopped receiving inbound cargo trucks due to a major strike and blockade — affecting around 4,000 truck trips every day.

The protest has spread from highways to the port, disrupting supply chains, cross-border trade, food distribution and e-commerce deliveries across Mexico.
The blockade is expected to continue indefinitely, meaning delays could get worse.

If your cargo moves through Mexico, now is the time to:
✔ Adjust shipping routes
✔ Prepare for delays
✔ Stay in close touch with your logistics provider

📦 Shipping rates are climbing again!

After Trump’s latest statement about a possible 100% tariff on Chinese goods starting November 2025, we’ve already seen price increases on routes to the U.S. and those transiting through the U.S., as well as rising air freight rates.

If you’re planning shipments in the coming months, it might be wise to book early, explore flexible shipping options, and keep in touch with your forwarder to stay ahead of sudden rate changes.

🌍 Trade policies may shift — but good planning keeps your cargo moving.
What’s your view on these new tariff talks?

🚢⚠️ 50 Vessels Stuck, Delays Over 90 Hours – The Biggest Disruption in Global Shipping This Year? ⚠️🚢

As of June, Europe’s top three container ports – Antwerp, Hamburg, and Rotterdam – are on the brink of collapse due to congestion and widespread strikes.

📌 Latest alerts from Kuehne+Nagel:

Full suspension of terminal operations in Antwerp on June 25 due to a national strike

Barge delays in Antwerp up to 90 hours

Average vessel waiting time in Rotterdam: 77 hours

Nearly 50 vessels stranded outside Antwerp after pilots joined the strike

🚛 With limited trucking capacity and surging container arrivals, storage space is tight, inland barge services are disrupted, and extra costs and massive delays are unavoidable.

📈 Freight rate surge tells the story:
Shanghai–Europe base port rates jumped 76% in just 6 weeks – from USD 1,154/TEU on May 16 to USD 2,030/TEU by June 27!

🔍 Industry analysts warn: This severe port congestion may continue through October, with ripple effects expected to spill over into Asia and North America, putting global supply chains under renewed pressure.

📢 U.S. Announces Final Determination: Heavy AD and CVD Duties on Chinese Vanillin

On June 3, local time, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced its final determination in the anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) investigations on vanillin products imported from China.

According to the announcement, the U.S. will impose significantly high AD and CVD duties on Chinese-origin vanillin, effectively barring such products from entering the U.S. market.

🔸 Anti-dumping duties range from 190.20% to 379.87%
🔸 Countervailing duty rate is set at 42.10%
🔸 Combined total duties range from 232.3% to 421.97%

These punitive tariffs are expected to severely impact Chinese exporters of vanillin.

🗓 Implementation Timeline:
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) is scheduled to issue its final ruling by July 21, 2025. If affirmative, the AD and CVD duties will take effect immediately upon publication in the Federal Register.

🚨 "Think Your Cargo is Fully Insured? Think Again."

Ever had that sinking feeling when you realize your insurance doesn’t cover what you thought it did? 😬
Let’s clear up 5 big myths about cargo insurance:

1️⃣ "All Risk" doesn’t mean all risks

Floods, earthquakes, or bad packaging? Probably not covered.

2️⃣ Insured Value ≠ What Your Cargo is Worth

Hint: Profit margins and customs duties are often excluded.

3️⃣ Your Carrier’s Insurance is a Drop in the Ocean

Most only cover
500

500−2,000 per container. Yikes.

4️⃣ Total Loss Isn’t the Only Nightmare

Partial damage (e.g., moldy goods) can be a claims nightmare.

5️⃣ Claims Take FOREVER

60-90 days is the norm – and that’s if your paperwork is perfect.
