Silk Road Express carries just 80 guests in 38 private suites across a 15-car formation. Its exterior was hand-painted by a Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts team. Inside, HBA-designed interiors frame 270° panoramic views.

Two trains. One journey through southern China.

Board the Silk Road Express in Chengdu and wake to tropical rainforest; The next morning, a second train: a restored wooden carriage from the 1930s, riding narrow gauge track built in 1915 by local merchants as a branch of the Yunnan–Vietnam Railway. It moves at about 20 km/h, slow enough to watch herons lift from the paddies and smoke curl from farmhouse chimneys.
