FOB, CFR or CIF — do you know what you’re actually paying for? 🚢
These three terms may look similar, but the responsibilities for freight, insurance and risk are not the same.
A quick comparison:
• FOB — Buyer arranges the main freight and insurance
• CFR — Seller pays the ocean freight; buyer arranges insurance
• CIF — Seller pays the ocean freight and insurance
In all three cases, the key is understanding where responsibility and risk transfer during the shipment.
