🚛 HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW AN ENCLOSED TRAILER?

Most people recognize an enclosed trailer when they see one.... but far fewer know what all the exterior parts are actually called.

That can make a real difference when you’re hooking up, inspecting the trailer, asking a question, describing an issue, or renting one for the first time.

That’s why we created this enclosed trailer component guide. 👇

A few of the important parts you’ll see include:

🔸 Coupler — connects the trailer tongue to the tow vehicle’s hitch ball.

🔸 Safety chains — provide a secondary connection between the trailer and tow vehicle.

🔸 Breakaway cable — designed to activate the trailer’s braking system if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle.

🔸 7-pin trailer plug — provides the electrical connection for functions such as trailer lights and braking equipment.

🔸 Tongue jack and footplate — support the front of the trailer and help raise or lower it during connection and disconnection.

🔸 Trailer tongue — the structural A-frame section connecting the trailer body to the coupler.

🔸 Tandem axles, wheels and tires — support the trailer and its properly distributed load.

🔸 Fender — helps contain road spray and debris around the wheels.

🔸 Diamond-plate stone guard — helps protect the lower front of the trailer from stones and road debris.

🔸 Side door, door hardware and marker lights — provide access, secure the trailer and help keep it visible on the road.

Knowing the terminology doesn’t replace a proper hookup or pre-trip inspection..... but it can make the entire rental experience much easier, especially for someone who is newer to trailers.
