One of the things I work on is ICCP, Impressed Current Cathodic Protection on ships. In a nutshell, ICCP pushes electrons into the hull of a ship to maintain it's electrical potential at about -850 mV. This minimizes corrosion of the hull. Reference Cells are embedded in the hull to monitor the voltage of the hull. Titanium anodes impress current into the hull via the seawater around the ship. A rectifier connects to the ship structure to "ground" the system. A control panel with a thyristor takes input from the reference cells and adjusts the amperage going to the anodes. Silver grounding straps on the shafts bond them to the ships hull. A grounding strap on the rudder bonds it to the hull to prevent electrolytic corrosion in the steering gear. Understanding this system is confused by the fact that conventional "current" and electron movement go in opposite directions. The convention of current was well established long before there was any understanding of electrons.
