****Job Description****
90-Day Probation: $20.00/hr
Post-Probation: $25.00/hr
Serenity Transfer Service Ltd. has been providing professional transportation of deceased individuals across British Columbia since 2019, supporting hospitals, long-term care facilities, funeral homes, and provincial agencies. Our work is grounded in three guiding principles: Dignity, Excellence, and the Common Good.
We are currently seeking steady, calm, and dependable individuals to join our various community teams as on-call Decedent Transfer Technicians.
Position Overview:
In this role, you will attend transfer requests originating from hospitals, care homes, private residences, or investigative authorities. You’ll be responsible for the respectful handling and transportation of decedents, often acting as an early point of contact for families experiencing acute grief.
This line of work is unique. It demands emotional stability, physical capability, and the ability to maintain clear judgment in sensitive situations. In return, the position provides meaningful exposure to fields such as funeral services, forensics, emergency response, healthcare, and paramedicine.
Responsibilities:
-Respond promptly to transfer notifications, frequently with minimal notice
-Transport decedents safely, respectfully, and in accordance with company procedures
-Navigate challenging environments such as tight hallways, cluttered spaces, or narrow staircases
-Complete all documentation thoroughly and professionally
-Uphold strict confidentiality at all times
-Offer compassionate, appropriate interaction with families, medical staff, and law enforcement when needed
-Drive throughout British Columbia, including during poor weather or difficult road conditions
-Candidate Requirements
-Valid Class 5 ICBC driver’s license with no restrictions
-Dependable personal vehicle for travelling to designated meeting points
-Ability to lift 150+ lbs independently; capable of assisting with weights up to 300 lbs as a team
-Criminal record check (provided by the company at no charge)
-Reliability in meeting on-call expectations (minimum one call response per month to stay active)
-Emotional maturity and strong situational composure
-Comfort working directly with deceased individuals, including in situations involving bodily fluids
-Professional communication skills and a polished demeanor
-Ability to supply required attire: plain black collared shirt, black pants, and closed-toe black footwear or boots
Important Considerations:
This occupation involves frequent exposure to end-of-life circumstances. You will encounter deceased persons in a range of conditions, including cases involving trauma, decomposition, or other challenging scenes. Maintaining professional steadiness in these situations is essential. If you’re unsure of your comfort level with this element of the job, this position may not be suitable.
