Mine would be a night out in Vancouver. A concert or a musical, with a nice dinner beforehand. That's the same energy I'd take into planning a trip.

The biggest Disney mistake happens before you even buy a ticket. It's not about tickets or hotels, it's about pacing.

Trying to do too much in one day burns everyone out by 2pm, kids included. A slower day with real downtime almost always beats a packed one.

Japan in the fall is stunning, but let’s be honest, it’s a little late to plan that one this year 😄 The good news: there’s still time for a fall getaway closer to home. No flight, no two weeks off, just a drive or a ferry from Vancouver.

Harrison Hot Springs is about 1.5 hours away and perfect for a quiet overnight. Whistler is about 2 hours, with a calmer village and cozy fall weather. Salt Spring Island is one ferry ride from a slower pace. Tofino is a longer trip, so give it 3 nights, and storm watching season is just starting.

Holiday weekends fill up, so book your ferry and room early. Save this for later, or send it to the friend who always needs a weekend away. And DM me if you’d like a hand with the details.

Three more months left in 2026. Have you started thinking about where to go in 2027?

If the answer is not really, that's okay. A lot of trips start with a feeling, not a destination. A slower week. Time together without the logistics. Something the kids will still talk about.

What if your kids' next homeschool unit was an actual expedition ship?

I was onboard HX Expeditions last month, and their focus on education stood out right away. They've got a real Science Center onboard, kids take part in actual citizen science projects, like tracking phytoplankton for real ocean research. 🔬 There's even the option to camp overnight on land, surrounded by nature. I'll be sleeping in my stateroom for that one, but I love that it's there.
