While much of the city was enjoying the final long weekend of the summer and taking in the CNE, TTC maintenance crews were hard at work behind the scenes keeping Toronto moving.

We wanted to keep this weekend closure-free for customers during one of the busiest weekends of the year but there was still important state-of-good-repair work to be done.

In just a few hours, crews:

✅Replaced 120 feet of rail
✅Reduced the number of slow zones
✅Completed preventive switch maintenance, inspection, and cleaning
✅Carried out drain remediation and catch basin cleaning
✅Performed grouting and plaster maintenance.

This is the work most customers never see, but it plays a critical role in keeping the TTC safe, reliable, and ready to serve more than a million customers every day.

While these accomplishments are impressive, they also highlight just how much more can be achieved when crews have access to a full planned closure. Extended work windows allow multiple teams to tackle larger projects, complete more repairs, and accelerate improvements that make service more reliable for everyone.
