what I was asking everyone was whether you do a yearly review (looking back at how your year went) like this one:

I’d sketch this, but Adobe Illustrator CS6 keeps crashing on me and I’m tired of fighting with my computer today. Next time!

Hey ladies, does anybody do a "year end review" of 2012? Did you make progress or got stuck? What did you learn that can help you go forward in 2013? I am working on mine and will share with you when complete. Do you want to share yours?

Nicola Maule is the owner of connection360, an event planning and marketing company. She lives on Aylmer. Here is her story:

In one or two sentences, can you tell me what your business does?

I organize and market events for businesses/not-for-profits/public sector organizations in the National Capital Region.

What is the skill sets your largest client hires you for?

I have many skills- a one stop shop for communications and event planning. I can write, create a social media presence, arrange logistics, and be diplomatic.

How did you find your first customer?

Cold call.

How much time do you spend on marketing your business every week?

I try to network daily with new and existing clients via social media. The total is about 3 hours a week between in person networking and online marketing.

How much time do you spend on doing the work every week?

25 to 35 hours a week

What is the hardest thing about being in business on your own?

Managing the peaks and valleys of how busy I am. Some months the phone rings off the hook and other months it is quiet. Keeping a constant pipeline of business is a challenge.

How did you decide to get into business yourself instead of being an employee?

I love the flexibility of being my own boss and having a variety of projects to work on.
