At a time when Canada and its NATO allies are focusing on defence readiness, industrial resilience, and sovereign defence capability, we should recognize Prime Minister Carney’s leadership in securing the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank for Canada (DSRB).

Toronto is a strong choice to host the DSRB, bringing together global connectivity, financial expertise, and the professional services needed to support an institution of this scale.

For Ontario Shipyards, the DSRB represents an important opportunity to strengthen Canada’s marine and shipbuilding sectors through investment in workforce development, advanced manufacturing, and long-term sovereign capability.

Ontario Shipyards is proud to support Toronto’s bid and the continued advancement of Canada’s defence and marine industries.

Big things are taking shape in Hamilton ⚓️

Following our collaboration with .college and , we’re bringing a new, industry-led training model to life, right here in the shipyard.

Together, we’re building a shipbuilding learning hub where students and apprentices gain real, hands-on experience alongside skilled tradespeople.

Over the coming months, our fabrication shop will transform into a production hall supporting the build of a naval training vessel creating a live environment where the next generation learns by doing.

This is where Ontario’s next generation of shipbuilders gets built.

As January rolls in, so does our Winter Works period—and with it, a new cohort of co-op students joining the team at Ontario Shipyards.

We’re excited to welcome this round of co-op students as they begin gaining hands-on, real-world experience in a working shipyard environment. One of those students is Em Gillis, a co-op student from Memorial University, studying Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering.

Our co-op program provides valuable educational opportunities for students to apply their academic learning to real projects, while also offering meaningful support to our teams during a busy operational period. Just as importantly, these experiences help build a strong talent pipeline as we continue to grow the next generation of Ontario shipbuilders.

Welcome to the yard, Em, and to all of our Winter 2026 co-op students!
