Any substrate mix - ESPECIALLY a potting mix designed for Alocasia - should have worm castings included! They provide a boost of nutrients and I have found Alocasia to be more nutrient hungry than any of my other plants. I can fertilize them constantly without risking burning on the leaves.

planthavensupply sent me a bag of their worm castings to try and my plants have been growing well in their new mix after being repotted! I generally use coco coir, perlite and worm castings but I’m noticing a great amount of root growth with a chunkier mix and a generous heaping of worm castings.

Did I just find a $2,000 plant in my home tissue culture lab? 👀

The fun part about plant tissue culture is these little discoveries 💎 I have been cloning Alocasia venom for the last two years or so and have noticed more mutations form from this plant than any other Alocasia I have in TC - lots of sport variegation and a variety of shades in the leaves

this is also exactly how I stumbled on my tri coloured philodendron white wizard so I’m feeling hopeful for a pink venom! 🤞

“If this plant is four years old why is it so small?” The joy of plant pests my friend, the joy of pests. Plus it’s already been chopped multiple times 🤪
As much as I wanted to get the whole chonk out of a jar and give it the life it deserves, that unfortunately wasn’t in the cards today.

Can this be considered cloning a dog?? Home tissue culture labs have its drawbacks, especially when it comes to the lack of a sterile environment…but this is kind of the cherry on top 🫩

Alocasia Sinuata “Quilted Dreams” mint - one of my most unique variegated plants.
Under bright light this plant pops out light green, almost white leaves. Under lower light, the leaves are their usual dark green with specks of mint scattered throughout.
She sure tests my patience though, this is probably the slowest growing alocasia in my collection 🫩

The hardest part about selling plants - thinking about old plants you’ve sold and wondering how well they’ve grown 🥲

I said goodbye to this stunning Alocasia Scalprum last year and have thought about it a few times (half wondering how it’s doing, half regretting selling it) there’s a few that kept a choke hold on me but this one’s right at the top of the list. Out of all the Scalprum aurea I’ve tissue cultured, this one grew out to be by far the most balanced
