Yesterday, Web Of Life Society & Common Ground Community Care teamed up to clean an abandoned encampment, which posed huge hazards to wildlife. The work was extremely tedious, with 3 volunteers cutting up barbed wire by hand which was 8 rows high and wrapped entirely around a large area, and had to be cut in several hundred pieces in order to fit it into the demolition bags. The importance of this work was highlighted as bears were seen during the initial start of the project a week prior, and while walking into the site yesterday, two older bear cubs were observed passing through the site. Several barbs along the wire fence had tufts of animal fur stuck on it, quite likely to be both bear and coyote hair. Also yesterday, an adjacent encampment that could be upwards of 15-20 years old started to be dug out of the soil for future extraction. Huge thanks to our small group of dedicated volunteers who finished the first section of this cleanup project to protect local wildlife!
