Why do people decide to learn to fly helicopters?

It isn’t always because they grew up knowing they wanted to be a pilot. For some, it’s a career change. For others, it’s the challenge of mastering a highly skilled profession, a passion for the aviation industry, or finally turning a long-held interest in flying into something real.

Becoming a commercial helicopter pilot starts with one decision: choosing to turn your interest in flying into a real career.

No previous flight experience needed. At L R Helicopters' Training Academy in Calgary, Alberta, you start with the fundamentals and work toward the knowledge, judgement and responsibility expected of a commercial pilot.

Ground school covers everything you'll be tested on:

➢ Air Law: regulations, rules and orders, air traffic services, practices and procedures, and licensing requirements

➢ Navigation: navigation, radio aids and electronic theory

➢ Meteorology

➢ Aeronautics, General Knowledge: airframes, engines and systems, and theory of flight

➢ Instruments and flight operations

From there, you build real skills in the cockpit, pass your Transport Canada exam and flight test, and earn your Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence.
