New passenger trains are connecting communities along one of Western North America’s busiest travel corridors. Amtrak Cascades has upgraded its fleet linking Vancouver, B.C., with Seattle, Portland, and Eugene, giving residents and visitors a better way to travel throughout the region without relying on a car.

🚆 The new fleet signals investment in the future of train travel in the Pacific Northwest.

💡 The same opportunity exists between Calgary, the Bow Valley, and Banff. With connections to Calgary International Airport, passenger rail could strengthen regional connectivity, reduce highway congestion, support tourism, and offer a more sustainable way to experience the Rockies.

About 100,000 vehicles parked at the Train Station intercept parking lot in July and August.

📉 According to the Town of Banff, the lot has helped reduce traffic congestion in downtown Banff, the Bow River bridge, and along the main route to the Banff Gondola and Upper Hot Springs.

🚗 Just this summer, it intercepted an average of 1,700 vehicles a day, reducing the number of vehicles travelling on Banff’s limited roadways.

We are so proud of the impact of this parking lot, and with the Banff Railway Lands Area Redevelopment Plan, we hope to get even more people out of their cars.

As Friends of CABR highlights in its latest update, three rail projects could come together to create a connected network linking Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, the airport, the Bow Valley, and Banff.

🚄 There’s still work ahead, but these are positive steps toward giving Albertans and visitors a better way to move around our province and access Canada’s first national park.

Traffic was down over September long weekend. Bus ridership was up!

🚘 112,686 vehicles were counted at Banff’s two main entrances from Sept 4 to 7.

📉 That’s 7% less than the same time in 2025.

🚌 Roam Transit’s local routes carried more than 34,000 riders.

👍  That’s an increase of 5% over 2025.  

This long weekend was a rainy one. Even still, more people used Roam Transit than last year, showing a move towards sustainable transportation.

Momentum for passenger rail in Alberta continues to build.

🚆 The province announced it’s looking for private-sector proponents to bring forward the ideas and expertise needed to help build Alberta’s passenger rail network.

The private sector is ready to step up, invest, and help move passenger rail forward.

💬 As Premier Smith said, passenger rail represents “a generational investment in Alberta’s future.”

Let’s keep this moving!

An updated Calgary-Banff passenger rail proposal has now been submitted to the Province of Alberta.

🚞 Let’s give people a better way to reach Canada’s first national park, reduce the number of vehicles on the road, and create a more sustainable way to experience Banff.

✅ We’ve been working toward this vision for more than a decade, and the momentum is building. It’s exciting to see so much progress toward making passenger rail to Banff a reality.

🏞️Banff opened a new park today to welcome people to the iconic Banff sign, located beside the Train Station. The event also celebrated traffic reduction success, thanks to the private development of the 500-stall free parking lot at the Train Station.

The park amenity sets the stage for future development plans for the Railway Lands.

Some exciting news for passenger rail between Calgary and Banff.

✅ Liricon Capital and Plenary Americas have officially submitted their proposal to YourAlberta (Government of Alberta), marking a major step forward for a project years in the making.

🚆 Passenger service could begin by 2030 if the province proceeds with the proposed connection between Calgary’s airport and downtown.

It’s part of a bigger vision for Banff: fewer cars, less congestion, and a better way to experience Canada’s first national park.
