The North Shuswap Kicker

The North Shuswap Kicker Community Newsletter serving the North and South Shuswap and surrounding areas. http://www.kicker.ca

The North Shuswap Kicker is a free monthly Publication that was introduced in February 1998. It was originally created by a group called KICK - Kommunity Involvement & Communication Kommittee, which is where the name The Kicker originated. Some of those involved recall that the committee was formed as a result of a Chamber of Commerce initiative to rejuvenate the community and draw more attention

to what was taking place in the North Shuswap. In April of 1998, Jan Wojciechowski took over the paper as publisher and turned it into a viable business. We still hold fast to the original mission statement and additionally provide a venue for local business to get their word out to keep our business community strong and economically healthy. We desire to build friendships and share the love that we have of the Shuswap with others. Our distribution spans the North and South Shuswap including, Chase, Sorrento, Blind Bay, Eagle Bay, Adams Lake and Seymour Arm as well as numerous mail subscriptions across Canada. We deliver between 3500 and 7000 papers monthly depending on the time of year.

Fall fire hydrant servicing will be taking place on the following dates in various areas of the CSRD:

🔹Falkland – October 1
🔹Sunnybrae – October 1
🔹Eagle Bay – October 2
🔹MacArthur Heights – October 2
🔹Anglemont – October 3, 4, 7, 8 & 9
🔹Saratoga – October 9
🔹Sorrento – October 10, 11, 14 & 15
🔹Cedar Heights – October 16 & 17

Following the hydrant flushing, residents may notice discoloration from sediment in the water system. Discolored water comes from sediment getting stirred up from the high flows during hydrant testing. This discoloration is not harmful, as the water has been disinfected.

Air may also be present in piping. Running a garden hose or cold water bathtub faucet for several minutes should eliminate both air and discoloration.

The CSRD appreciates your patience with any inconvenience this may cause.

Aggressive fire behaviour has been observed on the eastern flank of the Shetland Creek (K70910) wildfire, between the North and South Venables road. Rank 4 fire behaviour, which is a highly vigorous surface fire with torching, or passive crown fire, is moving in an eastern direction to Highway 1. Due to the concern of access and egress routes being compromised, personnel working in the Venables Valley area will be pulling back to safety zones.

Highway 1 is now closed in the interest of first responder and public safety. This incident remains dynamic and conditions can change rapidly. More information on the status of the Highway 1 travel corridor can be found on DriveBC: https://www.drivebc.ca/mobile/pub/events/id/DBC-66349.html

For updates on the Shetland Creek wildfire, please refer to the incident webpage: https://wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/incidents?fireYear=2024&incidentNumber=K70910
