Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox is the appointed Chief Fisheries Officer in Barbados. She took up the role in January 2023 with a mission to improve the country's fishing industry and guide it to new heights.

Her role as Chief Fisheries Officer is extraordinarily dynamic and multifaceted. Her days often provide new experiences and require a balanced solution-oriented skillset. However, she enjoys connecting with her fellow Barbadians and is dedicated to breathing new life and advancements into the fisheries sector.

Sleep in peace super lady. You will be missed by the CNFO family.

The National Fisherfolk Organisation ( ) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines continues its determined efforts to position local fishers to supply quality seafood to Resorts.

As part of this initiative, the fisheries facility was selected to pilot seafood production for this exciting market opportunity. However, structural challenges identified at the facility have delayed the commencement of operations.

Today, representatives from , the NFO, and the Barrouallie Fishermen's Co-operative met once again to assess the situation and collectively identify practical solutions to address these setbacks.

This second assessment demonstrates the commitment of all parties to ensuring that the facility is safe, functional, and capable of meeting the standards required for this venture.

The business of fisheries continues in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Even while NFO President Winsbert Harry is in the Dominican Republic attending to other fisheries-related responsibilities, the work at home presses on through collaboration, dedication, and the shared vision of creating sustainable economic opportunities for our fisherfolk.

Progress may sometimes be slower than anticipated, but the NFO remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for fishers and strengthen the local seafood industry. Together, we are building pathways that will allow Vincentian fishers to benefit from new and expanding markets.

Nadine Nembhard spoke on the history of the World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP), highlighting the movement's decades-long struggle to defend the rights, livelihoods, and cultures of small-scale fishers around the world.

She emphasized the importance of the new as a key step in advancing the aquaecology agenda and strengthening the movement for future generations. The Ocean School will help build a new generation of leaders who are conscious of aquaecology, committed to food sovereignty, and equipped to defend oceans, inland waters, and fishing communities.

By combining traditional knowledge, political education, leadership development, and practical learning, the WFFP Ocean School will contribute to thriving fishing communities where social justice, environmental sustainability, and collective action are cross-cutting principles that guide the future of small-scale fisheries.
