Building a startup is not just about solving a problem. It is also about understanding how much difference that solution makes.

As part of the 𝑵𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆 (𝑵𝑰𝑪) 𝟑.𝟎 𝑴𝑽𝑷 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆, Md Tasnimul Haque and Masbahul Islam Hadi from 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏 attended Offline Session 2 on Impact Measurement & Goal Tracking.

Here are five takeaways that stood out to us:

• Start with the change you want to create. A clear impact vision helps shape the right goals and priorities.

• Make impact measurable. Turn broad ambitions into specific indicators that can be tracked over time.

• Build a baseline. Understand the starting point to evaluate the progress made and the difference created.

• Track progress consistently. Regular monitoring helps identify gaps, assess performance, and keep goals on track.

• Let evidence guide decisions. Impact data can reveal what is working, what needs improvement, and where to focus next.

For 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏, this means looking beyond the production of sustainable paper and packaging to understand the value we can create through agricultural residue utilisation, waste reduction, and more sustainable alternatives for businesses.

The goal is not simply to create impact, but to understand it, measure it, and keep improving it.

12 hours.
Countless trials.
One small sheet of paper
and a big step forward.

After almost 12 hours at the SUST CEP Lab, we finally completed the 2nd 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 of BIOPEP.

It was a long, exhausting process filled with patience, learning, adjustments, and anticipation. And when we finally saw that small packaging paper sheet in our hands, it may have looked like a simple result, but to us, it represented hours of hard work and a meaningful step toward our vision of sustainable packaging.

We are deeply grateful to our honorable Vice Chancellor of SUST, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐝. 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐥 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐦, and our respected mentors, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐝. 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐳 𝐔𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧, CEP, SUST, and 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐊𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐝, Lecturer, CEP, SUST, for their continuous guidance, support, and encouragement.

A special thanks to the Needle Innovation Challenge for giving us the platform and motivation to keep turning our ideas into reality.

Another step forward in building 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏 with purpose and measurable impact.

As part of the 𝑵𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆 (𝑵𝑰𝑪) 𝟑.𝟎 𝑴𝑽𝑷 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆, 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏 team members Md Tasnimul Haque and Masbahul Islam Hadi participated in an expert-led masterclass focused on two important areas for early-stage innovators:

• Building Startup Visibility & Social Presence
• Impact Measurement & Goal Tracking

The sessions provided valuable insights into strengthening 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏 ’s digital presence, communicating our innovation more effectively, setting meaningful impact KPIs, and tracking progress against our goals.

As we continue developing 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐏 , these learnings will help us build not only a stronger startup presence, but also a more structured approach to measuring the impact we aim to create.

Exploring the Packaging Industry: A Visit to 𝐁𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐂

Our BioPep journey began at the 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (BSCIC), where we had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into Bangladesh’s packaging and manufacturing ecosystem.

During our visit, we were fortunate to meet 𝐌𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫 (𝐃𝐆𝐌) and 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫, 𝐁𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐂. His insights helped us better understand the country’s packaging industry, manufacturing clusters, traditional production practices, and the opportunities available for emerging entrepreneurs.

We learned about packaging enterprises such as Fulkoli and Ma Box House, as well as packaging mills in 𝐈𝐬𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢 and 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐠. We also explored key BSCIC industrial locations, including Bottashor and Gotatighor, where packaging-related manufacturing activities are carried out.

A particularly valuable part of the discussion was learning about 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 through Bangladesh Bank and EFT, as well as the importance of connecting emerging businesses with relevant industry stakeholders.

Mr. Shohel Hawlader also encouraged us to seek further guidance through a meeting with the BSCIC Chairman, which would help us deepen our understanding of the industry and explore future opportunities.

This visit was more than just a field trip, it was an opportunity to connect academic learning with real-world industry practices, understand the challenges and opportunities within the packaging sector, and gain a clearer perspective on building sustainable solutions.

A meaningful step forward in our BIOPEP journey!

Day 1 of the first bootcamp for Needle Innovation Challenge has been an incredible learning experience focusing on the core of entrepreneurship, exploring the history of the RMG sector, and learning how to break down complex problems using the Business Model Canvas was an eye opener.

Every session is challenging us to think differently, and we are so excited to absorb these new lessons and grow into the innovators our RMG industry needs! 💼💡

We are thrilled to share an exciting achievement in our entrepreneurial journey.

On 30 January 2026, Team 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐏𝐞𝐩 had the incredible opportunity to represent our startup idea at the 𝐇𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐔𝐒𝐓. Competing alongside 155 talented teams, we successfully advanced through both the abstract selection round and the semifinal round, ultimately securing our place among the Top 7 finalist teams.

We are honored to announce that we achieved the position of 🥈 1st Runner-Up.

At the competition, we presented 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐏𝐞𝐩- our sustainability-driven startup that transforms underutilized agricultural by-products: rice straw, banana pseudo-stems and sugarcane bagasse, into eco-friendly packaging paper for Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry.

Through 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐏𝐞𝐩, we envision a future where agricultural waste becomes a valuable resource, helping reduce environmental pollution, minimize dependence on imported paper, and promote sustainable manufacturing within one of Bangladesh's largest industries. Our mission is to contribute to a greener circular economy by creating packaging solutions that are both environmentally responsible and economically viable.

This achievement would not have been possible without the encouragement of our mentors, judges, organizers, and everyone who believed in our vision. We are deeply grateful for your support and constructive feedback, which continues to inspire us to refine our solution and pursue even greater impact.

This recognition is not the destination, it's another step forward in our journey to build innovative, sustainable solutions for Bangladesh and beyond.
