Banga Dredgers Limited

Banga Dredgers Limited Banga Dredgers Bangladesh is a riverine country. It is a delta with total area of nearly 144 thousand square kilometers.

It has eight major and more than 30 branch rivers with nearly 3500 kilometers of inland and costal waterways. Originating from the Himalayas, these rivers cross hundreds and thousands of kilometers before entering Bangladesh carrying with it an estimated 3 billion tons of suspended materials settling in the riverbeds in Bangladesh causing serious situation. The riverbed rise causes flood, bank ero

sion and drying of riverbed on recession of water causing loss of navigability, agricultural productivity, fishery resources etc. and it also damage the environmental balance in country. Dredging of rivers, canals and other water bodies is the only means of overcoming the situation and should be the most urgent necessity of the country. Banga Dredgers Limited (BDL) is incorporated in 18th August, 2002 as a private limited company with the core objectives to help the nation to retrieve its old heritage of river transportation and flourish the economy as a whole by making all major rivers of the land navigable round the year. Bangladesh contains over 300 rivers; many of which are heavily silted and have not been dredged in nearly thirty-five years. The government plans to dredge the rivers in an effort to reduce potential flooding that inevitably follows regularly occurring natural disasters and to make the rivers more navigable. Thus, BDL decided to invest in the dredging project under a new emerging paradigm known as Public-Private Partnership. BDL stepped up as a private sector supporter when the government searched for assistance, adding dredging to their many specialties. “Save River, Save Bangladesh” is our company’s motto and it is up to us to join the government’s endeavors in solving our own environmental problems. With the decision to enter into the dredging industry, BDL wants to save hard earning foreign currency. In the past, foreign contractors were the only ones to do these projects; now it can be done by the largest industrial corporation in Bangladesh. Moreover, the dredges will create new employment opportunities in Bangladesh. Upon partnering with government, Banga Dredgers Ltd. has started procurement of most modern dredgers for their fleet. In line with this, BDL has procured 2 (two) 18″ Cutter Suction Dredgers from IHC-Holland, 1 (one) 20″ Cutter Suction Dredger from Doepke-Germany, 1 (one) 18″ Cutter Suction Dredger of Ellicott-USA and another 3 (three) 18″ Cutter Suction Dredgers built by own shipyard. BDL also procured suction dredgers for carrying out the requirement of land reclamation works. In order to meet-up the emergency repair works, maintenance works, docking-undocking etc., BDL set-up own dockyard (with two 1500 ton RCC Slipways) at Narayangonj which is ready to provide service round-the-clock.
