Over the past few weeks G and I have been helping our client in preparation for moving house; clearing out her shed and going room by room helping her decide what to keep and what to let go of.

We love working as a team when the client wants to be involved in the process - and are happy to see her all packed and ready for the next part of her moving journey!

After the clearing and decluttering takes place, Chuck Green makes sure the items are sustainably and thoughtfully recycled or repurposed. For this job, we used around 15 different recycling/rehoming pathways, including:

๐Ÿ’ฟ CDs & VHS tapes went to Plastic Panels Recycling
๐Ÿ“š Books went to the Book Shed in Stirling
๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ Furniture found new homes via the Buy Nothing Project on FB
๐Ÿงธ Old toys were recycled via BigW (TerraCycle)
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Worn out shoes not suitable for op shop were recycled through .asga and

Our client is now in the very capable hands of ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ and we look forward to sharing a cuppa in her new place soon โ˜•

This very cluttered shed has been a burden for this client for many years. Luckily, someone recently referred them to Chuck Green and they entrusted us to tackle the long overdue job.

Managing this job with level of care and respect was key in helping the client let go of all the extra things they had collected over the years. They had been prompted to make the decision after their house was sold, and this often comes with feelings of stress and grief; itโ€™s hard saying goodbye to a place with so many memories, where you spent a life well lived.

In transitional times like this, having a third party there to help you with all the decision making can really help. We love to be a part of the process of making the transition as stress-free as possible - as always with dash of enthusiasm and kindness. ๐Ÿซถ

This past week we had a chance to see the waste trail bags in action! ๐Ÿ“ธ A local group of school students took our bags on a trip to Glenelg river and the Coorong. We were stoked to hear they were a success! ๐Ÿ›ถ

The bags held up nicely and made the waste seperation process at end of the camp super easy. Each student was given three bags, which allowed them to sort and store their own landfill, recycling and food waste over the course of the trip.

Schools often camp in national parks, which means what you bring in also needs to be carried back out with you. I love that our waste bags go an extra step, so that once you're back at base camp it's easy (and much more likely) for the waste to be sorted into the right place. โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

If you're interested in ordering some of our trail bags of your own, just drop us a comment below and we'll get in touch.

After getting back from my trip to Perth, Iโ€™m back at the with my Stich & Fix ladies today. Coming home from a trip always reminds me just how many amazing people I have to be grateful for.

The Stitch & Fix group provide so much to the community, not just in making things to sell, but also through supporting the centre by volunteering their time every week. ๐Ÿซถ

Throughout my journey with this business, Iโ€™ve found so many kind people that want to do right by the earth and their communities. It really gives me hope and warm fuzzy feelings to know Iโ€™m not alone and we are all doing our bit.

This job was a full day's effort for the Chuck Green team! Georga and I spent the day getting a very packed room of a client's home ready for sale.

We tackled the upstairs room, where stacks of family memorabilia and furniture had been sitting, gathering dust. The client really appreciated being part of the process - we made sure to check in with her before items were taken away, and explained the different places they may end up (charity's, auction, given away, in a museum, etc)!

She said that knowing it wasn't all ending up in a skip really gave her peace of mind. She loved that her family's belongings were treated with respect during the whole process, and were moving on to a new home. โค๏ธโ™ป๏ธ

๐Ÿ’š Took textiles not fit for the Op shop to my local mechanic for rags (I ripped most of them up first) ๐Ÿš˜
๐Ÿ’š Salvaged fabric from a Chuck Green job to be made into a pouffe to hold more scrap textiles ๐Ÿ‘•
๐Ÿ’š Brought fabric-covered booked to Marilyn to be up-cycled into art projects!
๐Ÿ’š Recycled old stationery through the program at Officeworks
๐Ÿ’š Dropped off old sneakers at Sports Power to be recycled through their program ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Happy Thursday! The other day while I was in the city, I popped into Orchard Bookshop to find homes for some books I had recently acquired. They specialise in hand-picked new and second hand books - if you send them a photo of any books you're looking to sell on, they will value them for you.

I love how aesthetic their shop was, it made me want to stay and browse for hours. Their philosophy of preserving history and passing on old books to new homes has a sort of whimsy and nostalgia to it.

The team were lovely and really passionate about what they do. We had a great chat and they told me not only do they buy and sell but books, but they also gratefully take donations of:

- books (obviously)
- cards/postcards (written on or blank)
- bookmarks
- photos ๐Ÿ“ธ
- maps ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
- pamphlets/brochures/manuals
- other paper ephemeral
- bags

Check them out online or at the beautiful Adelaide Arcade ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜

Happy Thursday and welcome to the next instalment of People Behind the Waste! This week I sat down with Sue from @โ€Œtrailthreadsaus, who help make the world a more sustainable place by repairing a wide range of outdoor gear and clothing. She's a hero of mine and I often catch myself thinking what would Sue do?

Q: What do you like about being involved in the recycling/repair space?

A: I like that we are all doing our bit, which makes a big difference. It makes us put more consideration into what can be reused and repaired.

I also love how many amazing people Iโ€™ve met along the way - finding my people has really given me a sense of belonging in this community.

Q: What do you wish people knew?

A: 80% of the job request we reveice through Trail Threads are for zippers. So many people think their clothes are useless if the zip doesn't work. But the slider can be replaced, making it useable again!

I wish more people would think twice before throwing something away - there are many resources out there to help you fix and repair what you already own.

Q: Is their hope?

A: Yes, absolutely! If I didn't have hope, I would have closed my business. We just need to make people aware of whatโ€™s available and keep putting ourselves out there. Like with the waste bags weโ€™ve been developing together, which are made from upcycled materials!

Q: What can we do to help?

A: I think if enough people around the world do their bit, you never know what could happen next. Find your people, stay connected to your community. There are a lot of people out there just like me who want to see all our stuff reused and repurposed.

We're also seeing governments and companies starting to take into consideration what's best for future generations, such as banning the use of forever chemicals like PFAS on textiles.

Thanks Sue! What a legend! ๐Ÿฅ‡

Last weekend I visited the sustainability fair in Uradlia, which was such a wholesome Sunday activity! I loved checking out some of my favourite stalls like the Four Seeds gluten free brownie stall (delicious!) and stall, where they were making combs out of shredded plastic.

It was also great to see in real life! They have some very fun bag designs, plus practical every day pieces by . My mum and I are also fans of as all their jewellery pieces are made from recycled materials โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ It's always great to support locals ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ
