If you visit Pizzo, trying Tartufo is an absolute must!

This famous Calabrian dessert is pure indulgence — the traditional one is rich chocolate and hazelnut gelato wrapped around a molten chocolate centre, and we also opted (you can’t stop at one), the pistachio and almond option!

Created right here in Pizzo in the 1950s, it's easy to understand why it has become one of Italy's most beloved sweet treats…an absolute must 🇮🇹🍨✨

Today we visited the iconic Santa Maria dell’Isola in Tropea.

Perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop on the ocean overlooking the town, this historic sanctuary is believed to have been founded around the 6th century by Eastern monks.

Having watched over Tropea for nearly 1,500 years, it remains a symbol of the town’s rich history and one of the most breathtaking landmarks in southern Italy. 🇮🇹⛪✨

Today we explored the beautiful seaside town of Pizzo, one of Calabria’s hidden gems.

With its historic old town, lively piazzas, and stunning views, Pizzo is full of southern Italian charm.

And of course, no visit is complete without trying its famous Tartufo ice cream, which was born right here!….it was to die for 🤤 🇮🇹🍨✨

We are in love with Tropea! It is one of those places that instantly takes your breath away.

Perched dramatically on cliffs above the coastline, this charming historic town is filled with narrow streets, beautiful piazzas, and centuries of history.

It's easy to see why Tropea is considered one of Italy's most beautiful destinations and is on the list of ‘I Borghi più Belli d'Italia’ 🇮🇹 😊✨

When we opened the ‘portone’ (big front door) to the building our apartment is in, and saw the stairs…I have to admit, I was in disbelief!

But once we got up there and saw the amazing iconic view of Tropea
the ‘ Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola, we were blown away!

Bought a bunch of huge red cherry’s and opened a chilled bottle of wine to sit back and take in that view 😎

We have arrived at our next base for 5 nights, beautiful Tropea!

And our ground operators have once again made our jaw drop from the minute we entered our amazing apartment with an unmatched view to die for! 🤩

We will definitely be enjoying the view from our balcony with a few chilled wines over the next few days.

Sadly our time in Lipari and the Aeolian Islands has come to an end ☹️

Today we experienced one of Italy's most unique rail journeys — crossing the Strait of Messina by train!

When the train arrives in Messina, it doesn't simply continue on. Instead, the train is split into individual carriages, which are carefully driven onto a ferry for the crossing to mainland Italy.

Passengers can step off their carriage, head up on deck, enjoy the sea views, grab a coffee or snack from the ferry bar, and watch this fascinating operation unfold.

Once across the strait at Villa San Giovanni, the carriages are reassembled into a complete train and continue their journey north.

A remarkable blend of travel engineering that has to experienced at least once🚆⛴️🇮🇹 😎
